i am ending my junior year and am curious to which colleges i have a chance to attend at the end of my high school career. i have around a 2.9 but will raise it the first half of senior year.I also have always taken AP and honors courses. Ive taken the SAT once and scored a 1950, and plan to take it again. I have played soccer and done wrestling all 3 years in high school so far. i have also participated in chess club and have loads of community service. In my essay i intend to write about how i have overcome a close family member alcoholism and my own O.C.D.
I want to major in Political Science.

ok now for the colleges. im not sure where i should apply because i have no idea what my chances are. Im pretty confidant that i can get into most Csu's. But should i be applying to UC's? if so, which ones?
im also interested in schools like gonzaga, and USF. AND my girlfriend is applying to Boston University and am wondering if there are colleges around there i could get into.

could somebody please help me out and suggest which ones are out of reach and tell me where else i might apply?

Usually you’d need a 3.0, but since you have fairly good SAT scores, maybe you’re eligible by examination alone? I don’t know anyone who’s gotten in that way – usually people get a 3.0, take the course requirements, and/or be at the top 4% of their high school class. Talk to your school counselor.

Are you instate for the UC’s? I’m not too familiar with the eligible by examination alone thing but I were you, I would apply to all the UC’s including UCLA and UCB. Who knows you might get in those two. Also its one application for the all the UC so you don’t need to fill out several applications but it will cost you lots of money though.

Haha its funny how people on the west coast want to go to the east coast and vice a versa. I for one, am from the east coast and will be attending UCLA this fall.

To answer your question, I am only familiar with a few schools near boston, namely, Harvard, MIT, Boston College, Northeastern, and Boston University. I not too sure what your chances are at those schools but you probably have a decent shot at Northeastern and Boston University. And of course, there are other university in and around the Boston area, just do a quick search.

and one other thing i was curious about is the “admission by exception” by UC’s.

I’ve heard this is only for athletes, but would i be eligible to apply through this?
because of my troubled home life/ psychological problems that have honestly prevented me from attaining great grades.?

Yeah, thats definitely something to mention on your application whether its your UC application or any other application. Check the UC website for more information on the exemption. I’m not certain but I think that it’s not limited to only athletes.
