Which company...

and plebes keep your freaking mouths shut about '07. don't make '09 look bad or i swear i'll have you on all-calls. he's an officer, you don't even have a stripe on your shoulderboards.

does anyone know what the procedure is for company assignment? When I went to CVW, some of the mids believed it was based in the order that you apply.

This is something that I don't know, but I don't think it has anything to do with when you return your appointment card.

It could be some algorithim that AIS/MIDS generates once all the appointments are accepted.

Well said Wheelah44. I find it totally unprofessional that a Plebe is dishing on the Class of 07 who are officers. And then to show disrespect for the current class of 2010. Maybe, JT your claim of

see it in my company with my youngsters, I can tell they really want to break loose and tell us off,
is valid and your class needs to as you put it to be "told off"
I wonder what you have learned so far this year, is respect anywhere on your radar screen?

I know that 2012 in my company will have it harder than we do, but 2013 will have it about the same as us
So you think 2011 is going to be "super chill" Wait until next year before you start making any of these claims.

^ Exactly.

Oh come on guys, you all need to lay off Jack Traveler a little bit here. Everyone knows the reputation of certain companies, and if you don't either you're not putting in the effort in to find out, or you're living under a rock. We know who the cool companies are and who aren't. I don't think he/she meant any disrespect and neither did I. I just know that next year's 2/c, are going to be tough, particularly in those companies that I listed. Everyone regards training in a negative connotation, but it's really a good thing if done correctly. 2007 and 2008 trained us well, so that is wh 2010 seems to have a higher standard for training than say '11 or '09. There is that auora, especially in my company that '10 is going to be hard next year. I asked a firstie (now 2nd bn commander) what he thought our company was going to be like, and he says the we (youngsters) are going to be tough next year. This is the common perception in the company, and gathering from most of my friends, the perception of the class of '10 throughout the brigade. You can't refute opinions, since that's all they are. No one is claiming that '10 is going to be the toughest class to walk through Bancroft, it's just a perception.

P.S. JT I PM'd you.

I think the issue at hand here is not so much talking about chill or tough companies. Its more in the manner in which JT went about it. As a plebe humility is huge. Normally its one of the first things that you learn. Right now I'm right back in the bottom of the barrel. I deal with 0-3s to 0-5s on a daily basis. As well as not dropping our sirs theres a certain amount of deference we show to those people. Amongst the other ENS and 2LT we may talk about why we may not like certain instructors, however, they are private conversations between a few people. We wouldn't say anything disparaging about any squadrons instructors on a public forum. There is no problem to say that it looks as though 2010 will be tough next year, or that these companies tend to be tough on training. However, when you publically say that 2010 is practically flaming now or that '07 sucked, it shows definite respect issues.

Everyone regards training in a negative connotation

idk, I'd kinda temper that with flaming always has a negative connotation. I still think you can train without flaming. I seem to remember that as plebe year wore on, there were a few 2/c trainers that I really grew alot respect for. They trained, but they weren't a-holes about. When they yelled, it wasn't that you forgot an item or two on the menu, it meant you actually did f-up.

...OK, I think its time for to step off my soap box

A quick question about training:

Which classes do the majority of the training for plebes? 1c,2c, or 3c? Are responsabilities and jobs divided up between the different upperclass ranks?

So Fifth Company's considered hardcore??? Sounds about right

I didn't realize that people were actually getting serious about this subject! You obviously don't get to choose anything. There is no way to get around what plebe year is.

some of you need to calm down about who said what about whose class. too many threads on here turn in to bickering about which company/class is better than whose. anyway, to answer your question jpr, it is the 'job' of the 2/c to train the plebes. the 3/c are there to kind of be your mentors, you go to them with any small questions you may have. and the 1/c, other than the training officer, dont really train you, except for a few flaming firsties that might look at your squared corners, etc.

ps- put me on all calls?, hah.

ok- so here is a "parent" question.

What, exactly, makes a company "cool?"

And if a company is "cool," is that a good thing or a bad thing, or neither?

And if there are companies that are "cool," then are there ones that are "hot?"

And if they are hot," does it mean they are "really intense" or are they "hot" as in "really cool," making them even "hotter?"

I guess what I am trying to figure out is if I should be feeling some sort of sympathy or somehting for my Mid or if poor Mother B's hormones are all outta wack with all these "hot" and "cold" flashes!!!

Sheesh! You people whine and moan about companies and their training routines, whereas most applicants would gladly be placed in the hardest company x 5 to simply have the opportunity to go there!

Simayan: Well said and I could not agree with you more. One minute their whining that they have not received their appointment, then the next minute they want an easy company. Just be happy to receive the appointment and move forward.

Personally I hope I get in one of the harder companies. Half the reason I want to go to the academy is to have to struggle and help/rely on other plebes to make it through it. I'm doing everything I can now to prepare, but I'm not expecting it will be easy.

That's the spirit!

I'm just happy I got an appointment to NAPS. I don't really care what company I get put into when I get to the Academy, although I have some friends in 22nd, so that would be cool to be with people I know. The way I look at it is, its going to be hard either way, yeah some maybe harder than others, but at the time nobody really notices..

I can't believe people are debating whether or not they might be able to be placed into an 'easy' company. If you have your appointment, enjoy it and prepare yourself for a demanding four years and beyond. Some of us are still patiently waiting to hear from USNA, and share the feelings of PLEBE2008. I also want to be placed into one of the toughest companies. The harder an experience is, the more pride one can take from overcoming it. And also, that which does not kill one will make him stronger. I guess that's enough proverbial advice from me, but I would hope that the class of 2012 will be comprised of stellar individuals who are willing to persevere through the worst, and not just skate by the easiest way possible. Just my thoughts on this thread...

On another note, would anyone be willing to explain some of the company-specific roles? I read somewhere that 28 plays the croquet match against the Johnnies. Are there any other company-specific events like this?
Doesn't one of the companies run the game ball to the Army-Navy game?

hershey, that would be 13th
