Hi,

I'm a junior, and it's already time to pick course selections for next year! I'm trying to take as many AP and honors classes as I can handle. I'm already planning on taking AP Biology and Honors Pre-calc. Right now, I'm taking Academic (regular) U.S. 2. Next year, I will have completed my history requirements, so I need a replacement. My question is, would taking AP U.S. 2 look better than taking Honors or AP Art since I'll be continuing history? Or does it not make a difference? I would love to take Honors of AP Art, but if AP U.S. 2 looks better, I'll take that instead. Thanks in advance!

If you are not going to take art classes in college, you would be better off spending your time (and essentially your future money) on the history class. Conversely, if you love art, it’s a free class while you are in high school versus spending hundreds of dollars for a hobby class in college. History will be more applicable.

If you love AP Art, then take that and go for regular history if you don’t believe that you can do well enough in the AP level.

At my school, juniors take regular or AP US. You don’t take regular US and then AP. I don’t really see the point, because a lot of the information is the same, just a bit more in depth and quicker paced in AP. I think it might look kind of weird because of course you (should) do well in APUSH after you’ve already taken regular US. But if it works that way at your school, go for it. I think that for AP sciences, studio art, and music theory type classes, it makes sense to take a regular course and then AP, but not history… I’d take art. It will be fun. But I don’t really care about getting college credit in high school - like I don’t see the big deal. I want to take my college level classes.

I agree about not seeing the point of doing regular history and then AP; it’s the same subject matter and the AP test doesn’t require that much depth, so it might look weird. I also think AP Art seems to make more sense for you since it’s what you want. All APs look impressive, so take what you think will be the most enjoyable. :)

Sorry this response is a bit late, but I just wanted to say thanks! haha You’re right, taking AP after the regular does look weird. I’m actually thinking about taking AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics now (they’re both half year courses). I heard they’re both relatively easy courses :)
