Hi I was wondering if you might know the top 5 or so CSU schools for Computer Science majors. I also am looking to minor in the dramatic arts/theatre (I know that seems odd and crazy but both are a passion). Take the computer science major more into your consideration in the list because I’m still not sure about minoring. Thank you in advance.
CSU’s are not ranked for Undergraduate programs, but based on selectivity for the CS programs I would list them as follows:
Cal Poly SLO
San Jose State
San Diego State
CSU Long Beach
Cal Poly Pomona
CSU Fullerton
CSU East Bay has a good CS program and a great hiring record due to its proximity to the Bay Area.
Which school you attend for CS is not as important as location if you are targeting specific companies for internships and jobs. The large companies such as Google, Facebook etc… will recruit workers from all over the country, while small companies and startups will recruit from the local universities in the area.
CS is the most competitive major at many CSUs so, you may not qualify for the system’s top programs. Rather than getting you psyched for something that might be out of reach - post your stats so we can recommend a few appropriate targets.
@NCalRent: Here are OP’s stats.
SAT (new): 1180 (590 Reading, 590 Math, and a 6,4,6 on the essay each out of 8)
ACT: 23
GPA: 4.3 weighted
Community Service Hours: +100

I’m a drama geek with lots of involvement in local plays and school productions.
Your Weighted GPA means nothing for the CSU’s. You need to calculate your CSU capped weighted GPA = UC capped weighted GPA.

SLO uses 9-11th grades in the calculation while the rest of the CSU’s will use 10-11th grades in the calculation.
SLO and SJSU are out of Reach unless you can bump up your test scores. Target an ACT of 32+ and SAT of 1450+.
SDSU/CSULB are possible but still tough with your test scores. CSUF and CPP are better targets but still not a solid Match.
There are several CSU’s where CS is not impacted. Here is the CSU impaction matrix and you can see which schools would fit your criteria. I suggest SFSU, Sac State and Chico State.

that’s a tough one… due to the test scores. thx @gumbymom
Assuming your CSUGPA comes back around 3.9, I think Fullerton CPP, Sac, SF and Chico are likely to take you. SLO and SJSU, probably not. You are on the bubble for SDSU and probably LB too.
Another 100+ SAT points would make a big difference. You might also want to apply to UCR.
