Which debit card company would you recommend to an incoming NYUer?

Well, I'm an international and the credit card company that my family uses is international but every time I purchase something in USD, there will be an additional cost (due to exchange rates) and I end up losing a lot of money...

Hence, I decided that it's much better that I get a debit card in the States and let my family transfer USD into that account instead of my native country's currency.

In this case, which bank do you recommend? I also saw that NYU itself has its own Banking system

<-- is this the best one or are other banks like American express better?

Also, what are some standard rates that I should be aware of when creating an account in those banks? What is the minimum deposit they allow?

People keep telling me to go to Chase since it is the most abundant in NYC but personally I currently have Citi and my whole family has Citi so I don’t think I will be switching.

get a Chase student account. there are a lot of branches nearby, they work with students all the time and the minimum balance is low. plus, they’ll probably have some incentive for new Chase bankers. they are quick when it comes to fraud detection and i’ve never had any problems.

by Chase, I’m assuming Chevy Chase bank… right?

i can’t tell if this is being facetious or not.

Chase Manhattan Bank.

haha I lol’d at the chevy chase bank comment.

my bad, I typed in “chase student account” in google and the first link was chevychasebank: student banking xD
