Which Dorm?

Hi, I am seriously considering Tulane, and have a question about the dorms. What dorm should I choose? I hate communal bathrooms, so I was leaning Wall. I’m not huge party person, but I want to be social. Will Wall allow this? Also are Wall dorms bigger/nicer since they are newer? Is it hard to get a Wall Dorm?

You are on the right track for what you want I think. As far as being hard to get, it does require a separate application and essay to get into Wall. You should also look at Greenbaum.

How would you describe Greenbaum?

Greenbaum is the newest dorm, this is only the 2nd year it’s open. It’s also suite style, like Wall. Patterson has a mix of suite style and communal. Greenbaum is located across the campus from the other freshman dorms. It’s not really that far, but it’s not in the same general vicinity as Wall, Patterson, Butler, Monroe and Sharp. Wall’s rooms are pretty big, there is a professor in Residence.

Doesn’t Greenbaum also have a professor in residence? I thought all new dorms going forward were supposed to be. Right now it is, I thought, Wall, Greenbaum, and Weatherhead (sophomores only, mostly honors).

Yes, you are correct. My oversight. They also have a demonstration kitchen!

Speaking as a current freshman, Wall is the way to go! I live there this year and I love it. The rooms are nice and big and the suite style bathrooms are a huge plus. Also, our faculty in residence is awesome, and her kids are so cute! It has a reputation for not being very social, but that’s really not true. My floor hangs out together constantly, we just aren’t hardcore party people like people who may live in Monroe or Sharp (or, interestingly, Butler). It does require a separate application but if you put some thought into the essays you should have no trouble getting in. Greenbaum is a nice, new dorm, but the rooms aren’t as big as Wall rooms and Greenbaum has the added disadvantage of being directly across the street from The Boot (the bar right near campus)–in other words, it’s really loud. Hope this helps!

Thanks!
