Which dorms have the largest rooms? The newest facilities? The closest to food? The most social? The quietest? ETC. What would you recommend and why?

Largest: Gilbert and Hoeing
Best Bathrooms: Gilbert
Closest to Food: Sue B.
Most Social: Sue B.
Quietest: None really- However there is a quiet floor (Affinity Housing) on Hoeing 4
Newest: Gilbert; However Sue B. is being renovated this summer

is sue b really being renovated? i'm stayin in gilbert this year, and will be d'lion next year in gilbert if anyone has questions...
there aren't really any halls set to be quiet...some halls tend to be more quiet than others...depending on the time of day, day of week, week of the year...

they're apparently taking out some of that storage space from sue b to make the actual rooms bigger to make it closer to the size of gilbert

And changing tiles and painting and putting in new furniture.

Recommend Sue B. for a freshman. It's still 100% frosh, right current ROCers?

yeah still 100% frosh as is Gilbert. I personally liked Gilbert way better than Sue B. despite having a triple. You're alot closer to everything on campus, the rooms are huge, its much more open I guess. But I also have a huge side bias for the quad so keep that in mind. ;)

Gilbert, Hoeing, and Sue B. are all freshman... They do not mix freshman and upperclassmen here...

Which one would be better for a non-partier? I was thinking sue-b since people probably go to the frats to party and Gilbert and Hoeing are both closer to frat row...

Go for substance free then...
Both dorms are equally likely to go to the quad...

all freshman dorms are substance free. However that is name is name only. I suggest you request a quiet hall, but really it just a matter what the other freshman assigned to you hall are going to be like.

What I meant is that there is actually a floor called substance free floor where you are bound to never drink or do anything else- gives more of a reason not to do anything bad.

I was considering sub-free for a while, but I don't want to be on the first floor of sue-b (and I really want sue-b). Also, while I personally don't use substances and don't plan to (very positive I won't) I still respect people's decisions to make their own choices. If they want to be substance-filled, I'm good with that, so long as my roomate deosn't puke on my stuff (and I know who my roomate is-- she's very unlikely to do so). I think that if I do sub-free it's more likely that I'll be around people that judge others based upon their decions, which is definitely not the place I'm looking for...

Could be wrong about this assessment, though it really doesn't make much of a difference since I've already chosen not to do sub-free (and quiet study is so not an option... I am more like a loud studier... well, more like a moderately toned studier (group study sessions!)

Daughter has a question:

what exactly is "quiet dorm"? No TV or music? church quiet? Just keep noise at a reasonable level? Not much explanation in the materials sent out. She's probably going to call res. life to get an explanation.

She's very studious and not a party animal, but likes movies, TV, music, etc.
