As you probably know, I have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for dorm buildings. Which ones should I apply for? I’d like to know the social scene, the noise level, and whether or not it’ll be easy to study in these places that you list off.

I’d also like to know if it’s better to have one or two roommates. On one hand, having one roommate is more spacious. On the other hand, if one roommate is for whatever reason terrible, then I can keep my sanity by talking to the other (lol i dunno, when people frustrate me, i get really cranky).

If it helps, I’m a psych major (but I’ll probably change it if/when I can).
I was debating on whether or not to get a suite or not, but it looks like I have to apply for halls and then they’ll see if they have room for people in the suites?

I don’t have much experience to advise you on this since I’m an incoming freshman, but I visited the campus for Engineering Scholars’ Day and had a chance to talk to my tour guide about housing for a little bit. He said most things a lot of people already know: the newer halls are smaller (this is mostly due to the fact that they’re shaped like pentagons), the residence halls are better for freshman solely due to the social interactions and friendships we’ll make (residential suites are typically for upperclassmen but they have one just for freshman since the halls tend to fill up quickly), etc.

I signed up for Aliso, Encinitas, and Montecito respectively mostly because I heard the brick wall dorms (the older ones) are roomier and that’s a big deal for me. I chose to have double occupancy just because I was told numerous times that triple occupancy is too crowded since it’s the same size room except with more people (not to mention the fact that I’m not interested in having a top bunk for my bed haha). My tour guide told me Aliso is a pretty social dorm, so I guess that played a big factor for me too. As for studying, I don’t think you’d have much of a problem in any of the dorms just because they have that quiet policy every school does during finals week, plus my tour guide told us that even though there’s no curfew, students are supposed to stay quiet after a certain time in case anyone is up studying late or trying to get sleep (duh haha). Plus, if you really wanted to study and your hall was too bothersome (which I doubt it will be), the library is open until 10 p.m. and there are various cafes on campus. Not to mention the computer lab that’s open 24/7.

Hope that little bit of inexperience helped haha!

there’s only one workout place. It’s between the two dorms (the white buildings). It would only take like 3 minutes to walk to it if you lived in the brick buildings.
