My son is trying to decide if he wants to go to Rutgers vs. TCNJ for Engineering. Commuting between campuses at Rutgers is a sticking point. Can anyone tell us specifically which of the 1st year courses you need to commute to from Bush and which campus they are on; These 1st year courses are: Gen Chem for Engrs, Expository Writing I, Cal I & II, Analytical Physics, Eng'g Orient & Mech. Stats and 2 Hum/Soc electives. How much off-Bush commuting you do in Engineering over the 4 years also?

Most engineering classes are on Busch. All of the classes you listed are offered on Busch, with Gen Chem, Physics, Engineering Orientation Lectures, and Statics only being offered there. Expos, Calc, and Humanities classes do have sections on Busch, but certain classes and sections may only be offered on other campuses. As you progress into sophomore/junior/senior years, all the engineering classes are on Busch. So if commuting between campuses is really an issue, engineering greatly minimizes this.

If the class is specifically for engineers (engineering orientation, analytical physics, mechanics, etc.), it will be on Busch. If the class can be for other majors (such as chemistry, calculus, humanities, etc.), it can be on other campuses as well as Busch. Commuting through the campuses is a part of Rutgers life, but it’s pretty easy to get used to.
