<p>I'm about to write my second (optional) essay for Harvard. I'm debating between two possible topics, my passion for art and my time at Harvard Summer School.</p>
<p>Should I focus on MY passion, or my passion for the SCHOOL?</p>
<p>I suggest that you write both of them first and then choose which one you like better (if you have enough time). Also, you can plan out the contents for both topics first and then decide which topic is more interesting, personal, special, etc.</p>

<p>no, I think it's better to show YOURSELF and reveal who you are. That's what harvard wants to see I think, not why you want to go, more why you would FIT at harvard? if you get what I'm saying?</p>

If you are going to write an optional essay it should shed light on a part of you that they might not have been able to know from the application</p>
