I'm applying to UofM soon and I'm confused about which essays to do.

I see two supplemental essays here:
Office of Undergraduate Admissions: U-M Common Application Supplemental Essays for First-Year Applicants

And another three essays on the first link of this page:
Office of Undergraduate Admissions: Forms

Are the supplemental essays required?

For a complete Michigan Application you need a main essay from your common application and the two supplemental essays from the first link.

The second link was for the previous year.

So in total, I’d be doing three essays? Can you give me some info on the main essay for the common app?

Three essays total. Common app comes out August 1’st and I think there is a preview of it up now; basically the topics ( I think five ) stay the same from year to year and you can also make your own question / topic.
