Hi,
I'm starting sophomore year this fall. I'm applying to ivy leagues and the extra curricular activities that I will be involved in aren't that good. Which should I keep and which should I discard and replace? I'm definitely doing the library intern for 4 years because it's during lunch time and there's no other extra curricular activity to do during lunch so might as well.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Library Intern (4 years)

PBIS Committee (3 years) [This is the school store]

Fashion with a Purpose (3 years)

National Honor Society ( 3 years and president)

Cosmetology Club (3 years and president )
-Student Publications ( 3 years)

College Now (3 years)

Global Vision International (Summers of sophomore, junior year) Volunteer work doing community service in Fiji and Costa Rica

NYC service (Summers of sophomore, junior, senior year)

Job at Chop't Salad ( Senior Year)

Also, how many more extra curricular activities should I be involved in?

You’re not asking the right questions, Xiomara.

Wait, so you’re planning out basically your entire high school life right now?

Ivy league schools don’t necessarily care that you had 10+ EC’s. They want to see you invest your time and effort into a select few that you truly enjoy. Don’t spread yourself too thin, and definitely don’t obsess with getting into the Ivy league at this point; do well in and enjoy high school and acceptance letters will come surely enough.

I certainly wouldn’t add ECs to beef up your application. I would focus on which activities you enjoy and continue to achieve high marks in the classes you have chosen for sophomore year.

Also, you make many assumptions (where you will be woking, which clubs you will lead, service projects). Sometimes our plans don’t go the way we envision. Try to show passion in what you are interested in doing.

I enjoy all of these. It’s just that someone recently told me my extracurricular activities aren’t up to par and are boring so I wanted to spice them up. Which of them look the best? There are other clubs I like to that make look better on an application. (e.g debate team, etc)

You’re all right, thanks. I was just hoping interesting Ec’s will help me through admissions.

Common application has 12 slots I believe. I may be mistaken. This doesn’t mean that you should fill up all the slots.

Thank
And I know , it’s just that there are so many things that interest me , but unfortunately some of the activities take place a the same time as others so I have to choose one.

This is why, I’m asking which should I drop since there are other extracurriculars that are at the same times as the lower ranked Ec’s here that I can replace and that also interest me.
