Idk about you guys, but every now and then there are just some profs that I LIKE. Not just because they're good teachers or are well-respected in their field or anything else like that, but just because I like them as human-f'n-beings and would be sad if they weren't there at my graduation :(

So CC, tell me, does every single professor show up to commencement? What about when we split into smaller ceremonies by college, major, minor, etc? Do a lot of professors go? Do they only go if they get invites from students?

Juuust wondering is all...

there is no minor ceremony teehee

Umm, how does the graduation work in college? Is it like in high school, but we have to sit through…6,000 names??? :O

There’s a university-wide convocation where I think all the undergrad names are read out (not 100% about this as I haven’t graduated) and also individual major (L&S) or college (non-L&S) ceremonies where all the PhD, Masters and undergrad names are read out and PhDs are hooded.

I worked at the COE commencement in May and it took forever because in addition to the name-reading of undergrads you had to sit through each PhD’s hooding, which was usually done by their advisor(s). Extrapolating from that, I guess most professors tend to at least go to major/college graduation? You could always ask them if they’re going, I mean it’s a nice thing to want them to see you graduate?

Engineer/Sciene Professor sitting at ceremony: “Did that person work in my lab? No it’s probably another Asian.”

haha

lol i guess not. but i went to my friend’s GPP minor graduation toast last year and i mean they had some of their notable faculty (like Ananya Roy and Richard Blum (haas shout out :P)) present. and it was a really nice sight to see students and their professors en mass enjoying each others’ company in a non-school setting… just jelly i guess…

I’m sure most go. I remember seeing pics of the psych departments commencement and saw a lot of prof. there.
