Which is better to transfer to UC? Cal Poly Pomona or Community College (most likely Cypress College)?
I'm aiming at any UC, but preferably Berkeley.
I got into Pomona for Civil Engineering.
Which UC besides Berkeley is also pretty good at engineering?

I don’t want to be mean, but if anything this reflects how naive CA kids are about the plethora of opportunities they have in CA.

Cal Poly Pomona is a very very good engineering school and turning it down would be foolish and completely unnecessary.

You can go to a JC and get a very high GPA and you STILL might NOT get into Cal. Be grateful for what you have (a tremendous opportunity) and go to Cal Poly.

I totally appreciate vociferous’ reply because Cal Poly Pomona (or SLO) would be great choices for engineering. But, if you have your HEART SET ON graduating from Berkeley then look at BERKELEY’s website and see what they require from a CC. I know some UC’s will say they FIRST take transfers from Community Colleges (and the more local the better) and THEN they take transfers from OTHER UC’s. Lastly from other colleges (so it is easier to transfer from a CC then a Cal STate).

INVESTIGATE!! That’s the best thing you can do. Make an INFORMED decision based on info you have received from the Universities you wish to pursue.

You may decide to go to Cal Poly Pomona…and that would be great! You just want to be informed.

Wow vociferous, so harsh But thanks for the truth. It’s just that from what I read, Cal Poly is only super good at Civil Engineering while the other engineerings are somewhat average. And I’m not entirely sure which engineering I want to dedicate myself to (I know about them and I like them all). And I know Cal is great at various engineerings, so I just want to keep my options open.
I’m thinking maybe I should play it safe and go to Cal Poly, just in case I don’t get into a UC. But then I’m lowering the chance for me to get into a UC since UC’s take transfers from CC’s first.
And yes, I’ll investigate some more.

Hey I am going through same situation as you went through. I got into Cal poly but want to go to a UC school. And i can make decision yet.
What do you think did you make a wise decision? Do you like it there? How is the social life like there? Is it a well reputed school?
You advice will be very helpful.
Thanks
