Which is easier, SATs or ACTs?

especially the math part...

for me they are equivalent...I'd say the SAT math is slightly easier...I got a 34 Math ACT and 800 math SAT

i took both they are relatively the same in math section although ACT tend to be a little bit easier... my opinion

Math
my sat:680>> 90 percentile
my act:31>> 96 percentile

ACT is easier, primarily because of SAT's sentence completion part in CR.

I think the SAT and ACT math sections have roughly the same difficulty. However, the SAT math section does have a distinctly different "flavor" than the ACT math section, if you know what I mean.

ACT is wayy easier. I didn't study a bit and my SAT equivalent was low 2200s.

SAT math can be tricky. ACT math is straightforward. However, the actual math in the ACT is harder in my opinion.

To master the SAT math, you have to really familiarize yourself with the type of questions they ask so you dont get tricked. For the ACT, you just have to be good at math.

Depends on what you're good at. I'm good at grammar, so sentence correction wasn't hard for me.

ACT is a better test (IMHO) because it's not as sneaky as the SAT.

Take my experience, for example:

I studied hard when I first took the SAT and received a 670 on the math section. A year later, I studied more than ever before and got my score back: 670 again!

A month later, I took the ACT without studying at all and scored a 34 on the math section.

So...you be the judge.

The math questions are slightly different: the ACTs require you to remember how to solve specific types of problems that you've probably seen before. The SAT, except for a few hard questions, requires you to apply fairly basic mathematical concepts to situations that are slightly different than standard textbook-style problems. If thinking in abstract, mathematical terms comes naturally, you'll probably prefer the SAT; if you're good at memorizing formulas and linear, step-by-step problem solving, you'll like the ACT

Yep, this is what I was talking about when I said the SAT math questions have a different "flavor" than the ACT ones.

So could I be prepared for both by studying for one?

ACT I did cold, without even knowing the format of the test, and I did better than I did on the SAT. I was in the 96th percentile in ACT math, rather than a depressing 86th percentile on the SAT. I found ACT reading questions easier, simply because they elimitnated the need to flip back and forth, and I always hated doing that.

The science was my weakest subject though. If you're like me and are more familiar with the SAT format (school makes us take the PSAT twice, but doesn't even suggest to us that we take the ACTs, or proctor it) familiarize yourself with the science section especially.

But yeah, they're not that different. It's all the same knowledge, just a different presentation, for the most part.

Just speaking from my own personal experience, I thought the ACT was easier. I'm pretty strong in verbal sections but crappy at math: the first time I took the SAT, I got a 710 on the reading section, 720 on the writing, but an embarassingly low score on the math. I took the SAT again and actually studied, and I improved my math score by 90 points... but then my verbal scores went down.

I was feeling kind of depressed about my scores, so I decided to take the ACT. My overall ACT score was about equal to my SAT score, but my math score was waaaaay better- it actually put me in the 90th percentile, which for a bad math student like me is a miracle.

But I also agree with SweeterThnEqual: the science section on the ACT can kill your composite score, so take the time to prepare for it.

hmm.. actually I have found (especially from this last October test) that the ACT is moving up a bit in their Math section. The math was definately not easy--towards the end especially.

I agree with boo. towards the end i started to guess and still got a 31 on math in oct.

But I did not study at all and got a 28 on my ACT's. I took kaplan classesfor the SAt's and only got a 1180(M & CR) In my opinion ACT's are way easier

It really depends on the person. I thought the ACT was a lot easier, but I never tried SAT prep or anything, so I'm not sure how I would have done with a little work on the SAT.

ACT is definitely easier. I just got my scores back today and, without any studying or knowledge of what is on the ACT except that there is a science section and others similar to the SAT, i scored equivalent to my SAT score. ACT science lowered my score cuz i didnt remember much and didnt get to finish.

SAT-1470/2190
ACT-31
