Which is more well-known?

Which is more well-known, Grinnell or McGill? And please say by who like US Grad schools, internationally, for their departments( I'm curious abt Econ, Political Science and East Asian studies)..Thanks, I'm currently deciding between the schools, and don't worry, name recognition is not the ONLY thing I'm considering!

McGill. It's the most recognized school in Canada internationally.

McGill is the most recognized Canadian school in the US. The University of Toronto is the most recognized Canadian school in the rest of the world.

I think Toronto is more recognized in America than McGill..But IMO Grinnell is better than either Toronto or McGill..even though it is in Iowa.

Grinnell is a better school than McGill, but McGill is more well-known because of size and alumni-networking.

I doubt Grinnell is a better school than McGill.

I'm in Canada now and I'd say that McGill, University of Toronto, and Queens University School of Commerce are the most pretigious universities in Canada.

yea...Canada. Grinnell is a better school than any school in Canada

Grinnell is a small LAC and cannot be compared with the major research schools. Too different. Both are very good in their league.

Grin-what?
McGill all the way.

Another typical Californian.

I agree, they really can't be compared, but as far as "name recognition" obviously the big research style school will always win out. Grinnell is probably the academically superior school, but you also have to consider location:
Iowa vs. Montreal, Large vs. small, Research vs. LAC, etc.

True, however i have the feeling (i may be wrong) that being a very good student at Grinnell would help you out more in getting into top Graduate programs in America.

I highly doubt the "typical Californian" has ever heard of McGill.

which is more well known... brandeis/carleton college/UBC/Uof Toronto

Definitely McGill.

To be honest with you, I've heard of Grinnell, but have no idea what state it's in.

Grinell better than every canadian school? Gimme a break. Toronto and McGill are both firmly within the top 50 worldwide. Grinnell isn't even close in terms of recognition.

but my tertiary councellor said any american college/univ is looks better if you apply for grad school then even the top canadian ones... well maybe not any but if it is witin the top 50 LAC or univ. And she was a professor at stanford

internationally, mcgill is definitely more well-known but it's like comparing penn state to swarthmore or boston u. to amherst, more well-known schools aren't always better. if you plan to attend a grad school in the us, grinnell is much more respected than mcgill.

nauru- dont take those rankings too seriously. not long ago a ranking by some chinese college put schools like u. of pittsburg and penn state in the top 40 while brown and dartmouth aren't even in the top 100.

I agree with CollegePrep. It depends on where you want to go after undergrad. If you want to go to grad school in the U.S., Grinnell would be more well known. You only have to look at the amount of students who go on to get Phd's, JDs, etc. at top grad schools. Its remarkable.
