I am a rising freshman and Northeastern and I don’t know what to choose? going to be in the school of business but idk if i should choose the LLC associated with my major (corporate explorers) or maybe ones where i would meet people who i wouldn’t necessarily spend time with in class (community service, leadership)…
I know I’m stereotyping but a lot of people in business are super career oriented and may be more focused on the money aspect of the job vs me who wants to do more social entrepreneurship so i’m not sure if I’m just kinda paranoid here or is that valid?
also i think my current top LLC choice is the community service one but the website is showing the wrong description there so if anyone wants to tell me what thats all about that would be welcomed!! thanks!!
I think an LLC outside of your major is a great idea, and something I always suggest when anyone asks. I went with the music LLC as a CS major myself. You get plenty of time around people in your major, and a different LLC is an easy way to expand your friend options.
Stereotypes are much more dangerous when applied to individuals categorically. Of course there are a decent number of business people who don’t fit what you described, but there are a good deal who will fit that description. It’s absolutely fine to consider that when you’re thinking of living around a group of people. In my situation, I certainly considered the general CS community, and that I likely would not be happy being surrounded by it 24/7.
The service one sounds great! I can’t say I can help when it comes to more info on it, but I think picking a contrasting/complementary but removed LLC is a great idea.
This advice is spot on. Pick an LLC that is not related to your major, so you can meet different people than those in your classes. The majority of business majors are career oriented - my daughter could tell a business major just by how they dressed for class. The econ majors dressed like her for class - jeans and a tshirt but the business majors (who had to take some econ classes) wore business casual to class. However, the school as a whole does put a big value on social enterprise, volunteerism, and community service (they have a huge community service program CEP - and community service hours are tied to several merit scholarships).
thanks for the advice!! also do you (or anyone) know what the odds are of getting my first choice- I submitted my deposit in like January so I think my chances are good if its by deposit date but idk if thats actually true
@aab12345 I think you will have a very good shot at your first choice. Part of the reason LLC’s move around between dorms each year is to adust the size to meet demand.
