Age old question. I've been googling and googling however it seems that while both look pretty ****ty, whichever you choose is entirely dependent on the individuals specific situation.

Anyway so here's mine:

In second year at 4 year uni (UIC)

Courses taken so far:

Gen Chem 1 & 2 - C
English - A
Span 103 & 104 - B

Taken at a community college:
Calc I - C
Gen Bio 1 - A

Courses in progress:

PUBH 110 - A
PSYCH 100 - A
Gen Bio 2 - B
Organic Chemistry 1 - ???

So my GPA is terrible ( 2.85 mainly attributed to the chemistry courses). I'm on the premed path pursuing a dual degree in Econ & Neuroscience. I'm starting my Econ sequence next semester ( currently in my second year at this school). I've gone to tutoring, met with my professor, and met with advisors and haven't really gotten a clear answer.

I'm almost certain I am failing or getting a D in my organic chem I class. I have the option to drop the course by this Friday and take a W and then retake it the following semester at my uni or community college. Or I can stick with the class and hope for a C and just move on, or if I get a D/ F I can do a grade recalculation and hopefully get a B or A the following semester and the D/ F i initially got would not be factored into my GPA BUT it would still appear on my transcript.

Either way it goes it will be apparent to medical schools that chemistry is not my strong suit, so I'm just wondering what you all would do in this situation. The professor has already stated he won't be curving and didn't really advise me to drop or retake the course..

The way this semester is going if I stay in orgo, I will probably have all A's and the C/D/F/W in organic chem. I need to get straight A's for the next 2/3 years to graduate with a 3.5/3.6 GPA.

I was doing the double because I’m more interested in econ than any science major but I feel neuro will help for mcat and if I want to pursue a district job in the city that requires a science major.

WayOutWestMom thanks so much for the clarification.

And yeah chem and math are very weak for me ugh. I took the SAT-M and my scores were less than desirable, I think my overall score was 1500 or 1200. 28 on my ACT with a 23/24 in math ( taken 4 times )

@tbdd27 my school does not do + or - grades so it would just be a solid C. I’ll know by today / tomorrow if I can get a C in this course.

Honestly I would be just doing comp sci if my math reasoning skills weren’t so weak. I’ve self taught myself a lot in the ways of programming and design, but the math component of the major is where I fear I would fail miserably at.

@mom2collegekids duly noted. I just worry about prospects should I not do so well on the MCAT since my gpa is already low. I’m planning on applying to DO schools.

Well turns out I have a 65% in the course. The are only two quizzes each worth 30 points ( my professor does not give exams or homework only these quizzes and iclicker points) and the final. Total points possible in the course is 600, based on ten 30 pt quizzes, 200 pt final, and 100 iclicker points.

Starting to think I could maybe still get a C, very nervous though.

I’m just very worried because I would love to stay in the course and get a C and move on from orgo I but if it doesn’t seem possible I don’t want to play a losing game here. What are your opinions on my situation other than what was stated before given the fact that I now know what I have in the course so far

Can’t edit my last post, but there are actually 4 quizzes left, not 2. Based on the fact that there are 12 total, but 2 get dropped. I’m just freaking out because I don’t want to drop if there is a chance, but I really don’t understand the material, so I don’t want to screw myself over by staying in the course and striving for a C but falling short.
