Which NE boarding schools have only limited spaces for incoming 10th graders

My son wants to apply for BS. As he is very young for his current grade, he would like to repeat the year (10th grade). That means he would be applying for 10th grade again in the fall of 2015.
He is interested in a number of New England boarding schools. Are there any of them that have so few spaces for 10th grade that we should eliminate them from his choices.
Thanks

Uhhh, most are limited no matter what grade you’re applying for (or at least the ones that are worth the time). Don’t forget to check out the few on the west coast as well. To counter limited spots, cast a broad net. Don’t eliminate based on selectivity alone.

You can usually get at least a quick sense of the numbers from the web site-- for example, Deerfield has a freshman class of 110 and a sophomore class of 150. Remember though, that fewer kids apply for 10th than 9th, so you need THOSE numbers to really know if it’s that much more selective in 10th-- but at least you can get a sense of the relative class size from the website.

Not many of the school websites show a breakdown of the student numbers by grade. But you can find the data here for each school in the U.S., when this website is running again:

You then need to adjust the numbers for the percentage of day v. boarding, domestic v. int’l, and finally divide by 2 if it’s a coed-school. You can get those percentages here:

Exeter over enrolled prep boys this year, so 10th grade spots for boys will be harder than usual next year .

The yield was unexpectedly very high for admitted boys, they had to open another male dorm.
