Which new york school?!

My SAT Scores range around 1180-1200. However my writing score is a little higher - on average 680. In total it's usually about 1850-1900 max. I have 92+ volunteer hours and many extra curricular activities. + I'm an international student from Canada.
My first question is will colleges focus on my writing score more since I'm applying for Journalism?

These are the schools I am considering (keep in mind that I'm aiming for a school in NYC):

NYU 35% 1250-1450
Fordham University Lincoln Centre Campus 43% 1160-1350
CUNY: City College 33% -------------
CUNY: Baruch College 25% 1170-1240
Barnard College (All Women) 23% 1250-1440
Syracuse University 51% 1090-1270

I've done plenty of research but I was wondering if any of you guys are attending these schools or have friends who are going there now? Or if you guys have other schools in mind that I should consider? I would appreciate any help THANKS!

Hunter

Brookyln College
Mairtime?

I was thinking of colleges that fit my range better and are in the city

Fordham in Bronx, though not directly in the city, might be a better alternative than the Lincoln campus.

Schools generally are more interested in the math and CR sections, no matter your major.

Is Financial Aid an issue? NYU offers little financial aid to US students and even less to international students. If you apply to NYU, your family should be prepared to pay the full sticker price (approximately $64k per year). Fordham doesn’t offer need based aid to International students either, nor does CUNY. Syracuse and Barnard offer limited need-based financial aid to international students. Unfortunately, your test scores are not really competitive for merit aid.

How much can your parents afford?

Your current stats aren’t competitive for the schools you listed. You’d be in the bottom 25% almost everywhere (or nearby) and students admitted with these stats tend to be “hooked” - gidfted athletes, legacies…

Assuming your parents have the money: SUNY Purchase (just outside NYC) would be a match, Pace would be a safety. Look into CUNY Staten Island, Eugene Lang, Manhattanville.

Have you considered the New School?
