Thank you so much in advance!
There is no “best”, but many/most BSs are excellent for writing. Milton, in particular, is known for pushing its students to be great writers.
I don’t know about digital art.
George has very strong visual art programs (including IB art if the IB diploma is of interest.) I think most BS are good at writing.
Rather than looking for the “best”, look at the various art classes at schools that interest you (in terms of vibe, size, location, etc.) Also look at their schedules to see how it’d fit with requirements.
I agree with @gardenstategal most schools that we are all familiar with have specific writing programs/classes at some point in their curriculum so checking out the course catalog might help you.
Look at the curriculum. For visual and writing awards look at the scholastic art awards. How many regional/national winners do they have? Any other major writing awards won by the class? There are major writing awards in several major subjects and some schools have kids who have published in major journals. Ask.
Some schools will have a marketing sheet about their arts programs. Also, look at what is on the walls. One school that billed themselves as being very creative had zero scholastic awards and the classroom pieces were not that impressive. My kid passed. Another had an amazing theater program, one had a great music presence. Also, look for teachers who are also artists/film makers/musicians in their own right. Those programs can be amazing. Ask about how many kids went into these fields. You can look at the matriculation list and see as well.
Look online to see if alumni are in the arts and what they are doing. You can find this on FB, instagram. Talk to the arts staff of your choice. Most schools have an arts visit day. You can get a sense of the level and programs at that time.
Check out Loomis. Very strong writing program, and a wide selection of digital arts classes.
Oh, just remembered concord academy - their art classes are taught by artists in residence vs teachers who aren’t actually producing art.
Thank you so much everyone for the extremely helpful replies! I will check out those schools. And as Happytime2001 suggested, will check awards, teacher qualification etc. Many thanks!!!
Since I’ve gotten to my BS, my writing has done nothing but improve drastically! You may also want to consider looking at smaller (but still rigorous!) schools that have outstanding writing programs! Some of the larger and “top” schools may be known for academics altogether, but I’m sure there are other places that specialize in writing more! Same with digital art, good luck!
(holy moly i used a lot of exclamation points)
Thank you everyone! Just to update everyone, I added Milton to my application list as I found their writing program is really strong reading on the courses they offer and teachers’ background. And their Art program seems to be great too. Milton has a higher percentage in Day students though, so not sure whether the boarding environment there is similar to a typical boarding school.
