Being on CC, you guys have probably heard this hundreds of times, making you all experts on this topic. But I have 3 GPA's and I dont know which one is looked at by colleges.

These are the 3:

Cumulative GPA: 3.5625
Academic Core GPA: 3.625
Weighted Cumul. GPA: 3.9688

btw, is that a good GPA? Enough to get into a good university(fsu, ucf, usf, pennstate)

Possibly none, possibly all…You have to remember, some schools look at everything listed on your transcript, some look at only unweighted, some recalculate your GPA using their own standards.

What state do you live in (being in-state vs. out of state will effect your chances)?

Most schools look at unweighted GPA. Many schools recalculate the GPA with their own equation that only takes “academic” classes into account (but that calculation varies by school regarding what they consider “academic”) and unweights if necessary. There is no one answer. Typically on CC the unweighted cumulative GPA is what is discussed regarding admissions. That is the GPA we have used to assess my kids’ chances for admissions at various colleges.

Another question that comes up is whether colleges will add additional college level classes into the GPA. No one knows for sure, but the general feeling among more experienced parents was that the colleges would NOT include those in calculating the high school GPA. Shame, as my D2 has a handful of "A"s in summer college courses. Of course she sent the transcripts along, so it could still be helpful.

intparent is correct. They focus a lot on UW because different high schools have different ways of calculating weighted GPAs. In terms of Penn State, you definitely have a chance. We live in state and my brother was accepted with a weighted of 3.5. Although it is more difficult to get accepted when you live out of state, I’d say you are still a great candidate.
Best of luck!
