Which Parking Lot to Take?

Im an incoming transfer student at the College majoring in Political Science (living off campus). Can you rank my top 3 parking choices?

Options:
Clairemont Campus Deck
Clairemont Residential Deck
Gatewood Deck
Lowergate South Gate
Micheal Street Deck
Peavine Gate
Turman Lot
Woodruff/Clifton Lot

Only certain students are allowed to have tags in each deck. This is the breakdown as far as I remember, but some of these could be a little off. I do know that as a soph/junior in the college who lives off-campus, you can only park in Clairemont Campus and Michael Street Decks unless you are an athlete, live in a fraternity house or sorority lodge, or have a disability tag.

Clairemont Campus Deck - All students
Clairemont Residential Deck - only Clairmont Residents
Gatewood Deck - Law School Students
Lowergate South Gate - graduate students
Micheal Street Deck - all students
Peavine Gate - only graduate students, seniors, athletes, residents of fraternity/sorority housing, and those with a disability tag
Turman Lot - only Turman Residents
Woodruff/Clifton Lot - only Woodruff/Clifton Residents

Once they complete the new B Jones deck, then we'll all be able to park in Peavine again.

aca0260,

You can knock off Clairemont right off the bat. Clairemont would be the furthest parking available; acutally located in Clairemont campus which requires a bus ride to main campus.

You would not be eligible, nor would you want, Turman parking. Turman is a sophomore dorm and only available to those living there.

The same applies to the Woodruff/Clifton lot. Only available to those living there.

Michael Street deck is located next to the Medical building department. Not too convenient. You have to cross a bridge to get to main campus, but then your near the DUC/center of campus.

Lowergate isn't all that bad. Its pretty close to the Business School and is located off Clifton next to the Law School.

Peavine is located in the back of the gym. Alot of people park there. Its a little walk but not too bad.

Gatewood is no good.

Where are your classes next semester? If you don't want to post them here, PM me.

There is no "great" parking. It really just depends on where most of your classes are going to be.

As a review:

Maybes:
Lowergate South Gate [OK]
Micheal Street Deck [OK]
Peavine Gate [OK]

Hellz No's:
Clairemont Campus Deck [NO]
Clairemont Residential Deck [NO]
Gatewood Deck [NO]
Turman Lot [NO]
Woodruff/Clifton Lot [NO]

If your having classes in the B school (which I assume you are not) then Lowergate would be the best. Peavine is better for classes in the Arts/Sciences (generally).

As dgebll has pointed out (which I did not know previosuly) Michael Street and Clairemont are your only two choices. Thus, I would go with Michael Street just so you have the ability to actually walk to class.

You can always park in the Visior Parking sections, but you can't have a Emory decal on your window plate. I know all too many who never put the decal on in the first place.

ok so i confirmed with emory parking: clairemont and michael are the only parking lots offered for a reg. student. with that said - is it even worth my 625 bones to park at clairemont? and whats the deal with visitors - is it free? If so, why doesnt everyone just park there?

Your only choice is either to park at Michael Street or use visitor parking. Visitor parking costs $. Its like 1 dollar per hour or something. The Hospital also sells weekly passes, I believe for $35.

I know a few students who have parked in visitor parking when late for class, etc.

I parked at Clairmont last semester and if I were you, I would go for Michael Street. You would be walking a bit more than you would if you parked at Clairmont (since you could just then take the shuttle, which would drop you off behind the DUC), but I would rather spend the extra 5 minutes walking than to wait for the shuttles. They are not all that dependable.

If you do end up with Clairmont, make sure you give yourself at least 30 minutes before your class starts. It should usually take no more than 15 minutes but sometimes the shuttles are delayed and/or the drivers are reaaaaaally slow.

Agreed, also the shuttles don't run late at night. And they stink. And they are unreliable.

ok so i dont find out if i got clairemont or michael until orientation. you think i can get my money back if i get clairemont? and are there other places to park nearby like stores/private streets?

bumpppppppppppppppppp

The only way I know to avoid parking is if you know someone who lives in a house near campus. Other than that, all the neighborhoods are no parking during the day, and the business parking lots nearby will tow or boot your car. You could also bike to campus if you live nearby. There's really not much you can do.

I doubt they'll give you a refund.

Yes, they WILL refund your money. In fact, they will give you a pro-rated refund anytime during the semester I believe.

You could park at the hospital and purchase weekly passes if you want, but the run $35; or just daily park there for $5.
