Hi everyone.
I applied as a business major and was accepted for the summer session to smeal. However, I don't really want to start in the summer as my graduation is pretty late (26th) and I want to have a final senior summer (traveling, working @ longtime camp job, etc. ).

My career goals are to become some kind of sports/entertainment business man, whether it be as an executive or an agent of some sort, my passions are in talking and discussing sports and entertainment, and I am a good business student.

My options at penn state, as told to me by my admissions officer are as follows:
1. Start @ Smeal in the Summer
2. Start at DUS in fall, and get a 3.2 GPA and transfer to smeal after two years.
3. Start at school of communications in fall

My opinion is to go to smeal at summer, I understand that it is hard for you due to your graduation date (mine is to late too, but fortunately I got into engineering for fall)or at least go to DUS and maintain a good GPA to transfer. For the goals you have set in your life about our career(and I wish you accomplish them) I believe a degree in economics will be a great boost!

Toally go for Smeal in the Summer. It’s one of the best business programs in the country and really tough to get in to. Also if you go in the summer you can do the LEAP program with other business students, there are 4 sections of Business Management this summer: [LEAP: Learning Edge Academic Program, University Park](http://www.leap.psu.edu/)

Is the transfer from DUS to Smeal very hard ? I think I am a diligent worker and can probably pull down that 3.2 GPA that I have seen as a requirement.

Even if you double major in business you still need to make the entrance to major reqs to get into the college. I’d do the summer session, Smeal has some pretty competitive majors.

Eromano: My understanding (you should speak to a counselor in Smeal) is that when you are admitted into Smeal, it is as a pre-major. You will still need to apply for a Smeal major and qualify in your sophomore year. I believe the advantages of starting in Smeal are that you do not need to maintain a 3.2 gpa after your first year (if you are not in Smeal and do not maintain this, you are disqualified from Smeal…the gpa requirement may be slightly less from a satellite campus) and you are not eligible for Smeal internships unless you are accepted to Smeal. I also believe that when it is time to apply for Smeal, those who are currently in Smeal and those in DUS, have the same opportunity to be accepted. Those starting in Smeal still need to meet the GPA requirements, or they will not be accepted when they apply in their sophomore year. I also believe that the only way to get into Smeal is to start in Smeal, or from DUS.

Again, please speak to a counselor in Smeal to verify this and best of luck!
