Which residential college do you hope to get in?

For me, I am crossing my fingers for either McMurtry or Duncan, because my host for Owl Days lived in McMurtry and her dorm was to die for. Also, the Duncan/McMurtry servery is the best, IMO. I’ve also heard Martel is really great and has awesome living facilities. I guess I’ll be happy anywhere they assign me, but I just hope for a private bathroom to share with one person only.

Whatever college you get assigned to will end up being the best college, no matter whether it is old or new. It’s the people that make the colleges amazing, not the architecture. Although, I will say, McMurtry has a great location and commons.

Way back when I attended owl days, there were only 8 colleges, and I remember thinking “I hope I get any college but X or X” - and I ended up being assigned into one of those colleges! I wouldn’t change my experience for anything. My college was the best college with the best people. My friends in other colleges said the same thing about the college they had been assigned to!

No matter what college you get assigned to, I highly recommend making an effort to get to know students from your year from other residential colleges. It really enhances the Rice experience.

FWIW- My D is in McMurtry and she says it is the best of the colleges! LOL

I’m trying not to get too set on a particular college since I want to love whichever one I’m in. While I am kind of partial towards McMurtry and Martel, I know I can’t control it. I’m legacy into Sid Richardson - I can’t decide whether I should legacy into it or legacy out of it. I’ve heard its facilities are pretty bad but that it has a strong sense of community…does anyone know much about it? I can’t seem to make up my mind.

OP, please change your name.

@Srabookworm Isn’t Sid Rich the tall building where the one student turned his dorm into a ballpit? From what I saw of his room, it looked pretty nice with tons of light through the giant glass-paned windows. Are the bathrooms communal & shared by the entire floor or something?

@JustTryHarder LOL, I agree it’s a pretty dumb and almost disturbing username but I couldn’t find another that wasn’t taken already. (Plus, it does reflect college life to some degree.) But if I do want to change it, is it possible?

@HighOnAdderall It’s more the reputation Sid has that concerns me. As far as layout, it’s four to a bathroom, which isn’t too bad. The fact that it’s in a tower seems as though it may be unpleasant though. The thing is, from what I understand, Sid has a reputation for being a party college, being clique-ish, and being kind of a “wild card.” I can’t tell if I’m going too much off of reputation unfairly though - it’s so hard to assess residential colleges without having experienced them firsthand, you know?

My son is in Sid Rich. The dorm is old, yes, but he really likes it. They play up their bad-boy image, but my son does not drink (maybe a little) or do drugs, and he has fit right in. Sid has its own servery, too.
