So I've been wondering which SAT subject tests I should take. I am interested in doing something like Economics/Business in college, so I know I will want to take SAT Math IIc. I also know I want to take a language, so I am going to take the Chinese With Listening test. (I have been learning Chinese since I was a kid, but it is not my native language because I learned English first and am better at it. I am half-Chinese, half-American, born in America.) Anyways, I think I will definitely want to take at least one more test, if not more. I am not all that great (and not interested) in science, so I don't really want to take those. Plus, they aren't too relevant with what I want to major in. Obviously, I won't take another language. I fell like the Literature test might be very hard and not worth it. So, I think I might do World History. That at least has some relevance to my interests, because I ultimately want to become some sort of multi-national businessman; I am interested in international business. Does Math IIc, Chinese, and World History sound good? Should I take more? Any thoughts? Thanks.

What year are you? Are you currently taking any AP courses? My son (HS junior) has been repeatedly advised to correspond the SAT II with his AP courses. He will take US History to correspond to the APUSH class. He will also take the Math II. He has not yet decided on a field of study, but taking 1 Math and 1 History covers most bases.

He has considered/is considering engineering and knows a handful of schools like Carn.Mellon require SAT II in Physics. He has simply decided to not apply there if he does opt for Engineering. He only found 1 school which required 3 SAT II. I don’t remember which school is was, but my son is of the less testing the better variety. One school he really liked requires ALL SAT II test results. He thinks less is best rather than stretch to 3 or 4 tests that he may not do as well.

I think your idea of Math II and a language is enough for 90% of the schools that require SAT II. I would not take more than 3 at any rate unless you are home schooled.

I would not take Chinese unless you are incredibly confident in your abilities. Many native speakers take language tests, making the curve very harsh. I like Longhaul’s suggestion. Take SAT IIs in subjects that you are currently taking AP for. This strategy worked for me.

Take Math 2 (Get barron’s prep book and crank out an easy 750+ by self studying) and a subject test that is related to an AP course that you have taken and done well in. Most upper tier schools require 2, but only a handful require 3, Georgetown and Boston College are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I am confident…haha because I’ve been speaking Chinese since I was three years old (I am half-Chinese) and always talk to my mom in Chinese. So even though I was born in America, I am pretty fluent in Chinese. Plus, I have gone to China many times. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions! :)

Math2, Chinese and US History. Best of luck.
