I am not exceptional in any subject to the point where I could just go in and get a 700+ (my goal really). Because I am taking the SAT in November, I can only take the subject test in December, which leaves me with VERY little time (but enough) to prepare. I'm a senior and applying to college this year. I took USH and did alright; I got in the low 700s. I took bio, and I did HORRIBLE with a 660. I did not take the AP class by the way, but I did self study for a few weeks. So here are my options:

Take the SAT Bio again

Take another SAT subject test such as Math II; I skipped pre-calc and went straight into AP Calculus from trig by the way

Advice? I am DESPERATE, as I need to start studying. Note that most of my reaches require 2 SAT subject tests. Any help (given this info) is greatly appreciated!

Anyone? Please, I really, really need help lol.

I’d probably take the Math test

@CoolCactus thanks for the input, I guess that means I have to do some hardcore studying to learn pre calc

Does anyone know if the SAT Math II is doable for a student who did not take pre calc?

If you are in AP Calc, you should have a good enough base for Math II, Calc builds on skills from pre-calc, so it’s hard for me to imagine a world where they skipped you from trig to AP Calculus knowing that you didn’t have the prerequisite skills down.

But, as for taking a test, my advice would be to go invest in the Great Big Book Of SAT Subject Tests put out by CB. Sit down, and take every test in the book you think you have a chance of doing even moderately ok on. Take Lit, Bio, Chem, Physics, whatever foreign language you take, Math II, US History etc. Do one or two a day, you will probably bomb a few (I got a 560 or something in physics - while taking physics) but you should identify at least a few strong points. Which ever tests look most promising, sign up, and start your in-depth studying.

Good luck on whatever subject test you end up taking!

The Math 2 is very do-able if you do the prep. My son got a 780 despite not having done pre-calc or calc. First go start to finish with the Barrons SAT Math 2 prep book. If you get through that, go to the Dr. John Chung’s SAT Math 2 book. If you’re smart enough to do AP Calculus you should get well over 700 on the Math 2 if you use these books.

Yes do the Math 2. But only if you can really put the prep in. Work your way through one of the prep books – plan it out so that you finish the book and can spend the time to do at least three full practice tests. My son said that the same type of questions get asked on the subject tests, just with different numbers. So if you do enough practice tests, you will get it. Math 2 is very tough percentile-wise (meaning a 700 is actually the 52nd percentile for the subject test). But colleges know that the top students take the Math 2 so that as long as you can get above a 700, you should be OK.
