Which SAT Subject Test(s) Should I Take?

Hey guys. I'm going into my sophomore year in a few months and I'm looking to take some SAT Subject Tests to get them out of the way. Based on what I enjoy, and also your opinions, I'd like some idea of what I should be taking. Note that no AP courses are offered to me until junior year.

Freshman:
Algebra 1 (No honors offered, couldn't get ahead due to a lot of moving. Love math and completely the second half of the course in under a week.)
World Geography (No honors offered, loved the course)
Honors English I (Brilliant at writing and structure, horrible at comprehension.)
Honors Biology (Got an 100% in it due to a lot of studying. I don't very much enjoy science, which seems odd as to my liking of math)

Sophomore:
Honors Geometry (Will this be enough for Math 1?)
Honors English II
Honors Chemistry (Since this is more math based, and colleges love to see variety when it comes to SAT IIs, I'm wondering if you guys suggest attempting this?)
Honors World History (Love history, especially world. Not my strong suit, but I definitely think I'll be able to manage it.)

My options are Biology, Chemistry, World History, English Lit, or Math I. Any suggestions would be really appreciated! I'm looking to purchase books for them this summer. (Looking to take 2 by the way.)

Thanks! :)

The CollegeBoard has some practice tests on their website, so you can see approximately how difficult the questions are.

And for the Math I, the CollegeBoard recommends you take at least Algebra II for it. Also, remember that Math I has a pretty brutal curve - so most people would recommend Math II, so I would recommend that if it weren’t for the fact that you need Precalculus before you can take it.

For the most part, it is usually recommended that you take the appropriate AP class before taking a science AP unless you had a phenomenal teacher for your honors class. But I haven’t taken any science APs, so I have no appropriate experience. But based on that, I would wait until your junior year where you take your science APs before taking any science subject test.

I’ve heard that English Lit is one of the hardest subject tests and has a really harsh curve. Unless you are really great at comprehending writing, I would avoid this period.

World History can be quite difficult, but it has a good curve from what I hear. If you plan on taking AP World History, I would take it after that, but if you are only taking Honors World History, I think after that would be an appropriate time to take the World History subject test.

I took Math II, Literature, and Chemistry. I took the chem subject test a month after I finised my honors chem class, and it was a breeze. I recall lots of stoichiometry, conversion, and toying with formulae/ratios. And gas pressure/volume/whatever. . Lit is a walk in the park if you’re good at critical reading and literary comprehension, and Math II wasn’t too bad. I’ve also heard that you should hold off on taking Math I if you’re going to go for more advanced math classes. Besides, you have until the fall of your senior year to take these. Plenty of time to take more classes and learn everything.

It really depends on what APs you are planning to take and when you decide to take your SAT IIs. Personally, Honors Chem was enough for me to take Chem SAT IIs and that was with a not so great teacher. I would probably recommend Math I for you looking at your course load. World History has a good curve, but is still not as easy as it sounds. You should take it next year in June if you really think you have a grasp on it. If you want to take Bio SAT IIs then do it in October or the first time it’s offered in the fall. You can spend the summer studying for it.

There is always the option of taking SAT IIs junior year after having taken some AP courses. I know many juniors who are taking 2 SAT IIs this saturday. you should make your choice based off of what you feel. If you’re not sure then take a couple of practice tests. I do recommend though that you chose either a math or a science and a history. Don’t take literature till like fall of senior year. You need time to develop the depth required.
