Which school do you consider to be better: Lawrenceville or Horace Mann?

I personally am more drawn towards Lawrenceville, but I am applying to both schools. I just wanted some more views on the subject... Thanks!

No comparison in my opinion. Lawrenceville’s up there, Horace Mann’s not. If personal preference were to draw you towards Horace Mann, I’d encourage you to choose that.
But to me, this is like comparing Princeton to Penn State. Both are great, but off the bat, I’d choose Princeton.

I think they are so different that any comparison will be meaningless. The only similarity is that they are both superb schools, but HM is an urban day school while Lawrenceville is an exurban boarding school. I’m sure both have evolved through the years, but the Horace Mann graduates I knew were brainy, but not at all conventionally “preppy.” Lawrenceville practically epitomized everyone’s stereotype of a prep school, on the other hand. Do you want to board? If so, you should be looking at more boarding schools. If you want to remain in NYC, consider other private day and magnet schools in the city. It’s nice to give yourself options.
