Which school for psych?

Which school is better for psych, stony brook or NYU? NYU seems better but it’s really expensive, but does stony brook have a good psych program? I’m also considering UConn so any info on that would help. Thanks!

Undergrad psychology is more or less the same across multiple places, IMHO. It’s like going to a diner and seeing what location has better bacon. It’s a standard offering. I’d say affordability supersedes any discrete differences in either school’s offerings in the Psych dept for a Bachelors.

NYU and Stony Brook are very different schools. NYU psychology program is decent and you have a mostly very smart and motivated student body. The location is great if you like new york city. Unfortunately, it is very, very expensive and the financial aid has a reputation for being stingy. While the psychology department is good it’s not like the business school where going to NYU gives you an advantage.

Stony Brook is OK. It’s a commuter school. Most people are international or leave on the weekends or commute. Not really much of a campus life. While it isn’t podunk the stony brook long island area isn’t the most exciting place. It’s known for its pre-health, engineering and hard science. It is a research school so you can get involved with that. If you are interested in psych and want to stay in the SUNY system, I would recommend binghamton. It’s a decent school, doesn’t have the commuter issue that stony brook does and it is easy to get involved in a lab and do research. I would cast a wider net if I were you.

I now live in Stony Brook, attended SBU. My son is graduating from SBU. My daughter is planning on pursuing a degree in psychology. She applied to SBU as it has a great psych program, as well as Cornell and Bing.

We’re waiting on Cornell.
