I heard that both are great
I think either school will work. Visit both and you can easily makeup your mind.
@meimei29 Agree that both are strong pre-med and you should go where you feel the best fit. But keep in mind the following points: Bing is a smaller school and is more academically intense. The caliber of students is stronger. You may thrive in that environment. However, if your current stats would not put you in the top 25% (or close to that) in the freshman profile (above 1400 on SAT or above 30 on ACT) of Binghamton then you are more likely to get weeded out in the pre-med courses because the competition is greater. In contrast, Buffalo top 25% is above 1270 SAT and above 27 ACT. Med schools care more about high gpa in premed courses than the undergrad school you attended. (Of course the MCAT, demonstrated interest in medical field thru research and internships, ECs all matter as well). One other thing to consider: if you change your mind about premed, you will have more course options and majors to choose from at Buffalo. For example Buffalo has a communications department whereas Binghamton does not. (You would need to major in Rhetoric). Also it’s very difficult to transfer to Bing School of Management if you later decide to switch to business. It’s easier to switch into business or do any other intra-school transfer at Buffalo because the size of the school is much larger and can accommodate more stidents.
Are you in the honors college at either one?
@MYOS1634 no
Have you applied and been rejected? If not, apply. Pick the one where you are in the honors college.
@MYOS1634 I’ve already applied and been accepted to both, but neither in the honors college
I meant, have you applied to the HOnors Colleges and been rejected, or have you not applied yet? If you’ve not applied yet and you still can, do. Then, pick the one where you’re in the HOnors College.
That’s a big differentiator in terms of qualify of experience.
Have you visited? Spent an overnight?
@MYOS1634 I visited UB since I live in tha area. I’m going to Binghamton in April
@meimei29 from your previous posts, look like you’re an international student - big disadvantage for applying to med schools in US since internationals are held to much higher standard - higher GPA and higher MCAT.
@Andorvw I’m in the process of becoming a permanent resident, so I will be considered like others
PR status could drag out for years, what makes you think you can get that status prior to med school application?
@artloversplus I have four years to apply
In most cases, PR status takes about 10 years to apply. Have you talk to your immigration lawyer and what do they say?
@artloversplus 10 years? Wow that’s a lot. Mine is estimated to last from 1 to 1 and a half years
Do you have an immigration lawyer? What did they say? On what basis you can immigrate in 1 year?
@artloversplus All I can say is that this is being processed by a company
I suppose you meant that your parents are applying pr status not you. So, on the day you are over 18, you won’t be part of your parents application. I urge you check with an immigration lawyer to see what are the options before jump in to a premed intention.
