Which school is better for Bioeng/premed

UCSD or UCI?

If it comes down to these two schools, which one is better?

Which one do you guys think is betteR? I'm thinkiing UCSD, but I want some opinions before I make my decision.

Anyone willing to share :D

in all honesty, i can’t think of any area in which UCI might possibly outrank UCSD. UCI is certainly a good school, but it’s usually hidden in the shadows of LA and SD.

in ranking, ucsd is much better. 2nd-4th in nation.

of cosrue you should go check out the campus and dorms and stuff before making your decision

I’m plannning to do bioeng in ucsd even though i was accepted to ucla and possibly berkeely

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/671116-uci-so-much-ask.html

Should answer your questions.

UCSD no question. UCSD’s bioE program is one of the top programs in the nation.

alright that answers that.

i live only 20 mins away from UCSD haha

Woo. that confirms most of the worries, UCSD it is most likely haha.

What about UCB? Any thoughts about their program?

The better engineering program would be SD. But the better premed school is neither because it doesn’t matter where you go if you’re a premed student.

alright, now i’m not that sad after being rejected from ucla haha

UCSD is known for its bioengineering. Like… really well known.

as far as i know…

ucsd > all UC’s for bioengineering. even berkeley

ucsd > all UC’s for almost anything with “bio” in it.

^^ SHHHHH DON’T ANNOUNCE THAT SECRET ON THIS SITE!! Now some Pro UCLA/UCI/UCD people will come attack you haha

dang, makes me even wonder why i paid the other UCLA and UCB app cost lol.

choice for UCSD it is then! thanks guys!

another question!!!

What about the job opportunities?

I heard that UCLA has better job opportunities than UCSD.

UCSD also lacks the “spirit” factor and isn’t “socially” active as UCLA or UCB. That worries meh!

I NOW know that UCSD offers superior education in the Bio program than the other two schools, or at least that is was I am picking up on, but what about the campus life and such?

What programs shines in UCSD and UCB?

I know that my major is impacted, but I was wondering if engineering would be better spent at UCB since my friend who goes there says its a good program, or stick it in UCSD where the best bioeng program is at. I’m not ure if i’m asking the same question or asking 82948290 questions in 1 lol…

I really want to make sure. I’m most likely going to UCSD regardless but I want to keep my options open JUST in case I get accepted to UCB XD.

Opinions and facts are preferred!

Also, what is UCB renowned for?

Haha, looks like somebody is up hella late tonight. indulges in self-hypocrisy

Job opportunities are more than enough at SD. San Diego is THE city for biotech start-up companies, even more so than Silicon Valley. If you don’t find a research position on campus (next to impossible) then you will find one in one of these companies. Or by job opportunities did you mean you just want any day job?

Can’t speak too much for Cal but my friend who is an EECS major there says that their BioE program is a joke compared to the rest of their superior engineering departments. In fact they’re pretty much begging people to major in it, so I think that I can comfortably say that SD is better at BioE. But overall Cal’s been around longer and their overall engineering department is ranked higher, if that means anything to you. For all other well-known programs I think a wikipedia search is sufficient enough.

I don’t think SD lacks a social scene because that’s really up to the individual, but I do agree we lack some kind of school unity/spirit. At first it doesn’t annoy you but then that fact gets kind of bothersome by your second year in. But I do think a lot goes on at SD regarding parties, making friends, club activities getting wild/active, etc.

And Cal is pretty much renown for… everything. It’s a good school and you should consider it if you get in. I personally like SD because of the lax atmosphere, good academic programs, and especially the personal experiences that I’ve had; I don’t regret my decision.

^

then holy shat! It’s going to be an EXTREMELY tough decision for me if I have to choose. I’m afraid its going to be EVEN more of a stress choosing than applying and waiting haha.

I guess I must wait until next week to SEE!

Thank you for your input. It will aide me in deciding as well! Gotta ask some friends about their opinions since they go to Berkeley :D
