Which school to apply to

Hello,

I will be applying regular decision to Cornell but I am unsure what school to apply to. I am a good student (4.0 UW GPA, 35 ACT) and have decent ECs so I think I would be a competitive applicant.

However, if I went to Cornell, my ultimate goal would be to graduate from the school of hotel management. The problem is I have no prior experience in the hospitality industry. I’ve sent out several emails asking for internships in the hotel world but no one has responded and I am too young to work in a hotel. I doubt I would get in.

If I applied to the college of arts and sciences, would it be easy to transfer in to hotel management? Or should I just apply directly and see what happens…

Thanks

The Hotel School has the least amount of applicants out of all the schools. If you meet the requirements (listed on their website) and you have decent ECs and recommendation letters, I would just directly apply to the Hotel School. If you apply to arts and sciences, you also have to submit subject test scores- so keep that in mind.

@laurenkravz thanks I have 780 on both of my subject test scores though so what school will give me a better chance?

i feel like a lot of people apply to arts and sciences, so i think the hotel School would be the best bet

A&S is more competitive than other colleges, but you have very good stats. I don’t think you would have a good chance of getting into the Hotel school if you don’t have any hospitality experience. It is not that difficult to transfer into the Hotel school. I have known few students who transferred from AEM(old business school) and A&S to hotel.

Keep in mind that the hotel school is also very competitive, not a sure thing. Also, they require a live interview form what I’ve read on these threads. Since hotel management is so customer service oriented, they will want to meet you first.
