Two fantastic Recommendation letters, one from my Advanced Physics, AP Physics, Pre-Calc, AP Calc teacher and one from my AP Euro teacher (also the principal of the school).

I'm a good writer so I am not worried about my Essays.

What schools should I consider applying to?

I think you’d have a pretty solid chance at getting into schools like UCLA, USC, maybe UC-Berkeley. Overall pretty high-ranked schools. Not any ivies or Stanford though, you need to have very strong extracurriculars for that. But you’re still a junior so the summer before senior year I recommend you work on doing alot of community service and volunteering to boost your chances a little. 100 Hours is not enough to be honest.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1467849-college-chances-ucla-usc-ucsb-etc.html

yeah, you’re looking really good for all the uc’s …try some ivies too! who knows  good luck
chance me??

Wait … paintbucketgreen … one B (in Health), near perfect test scores, rigorous courseload and very decent (although I’d agree they aren’t stellar) ECs, and you think Berkeley and UCLA aren’t shoe-ins? Even though EECS is the hardest major to get in, I still think those are near-safeties.

Soxpride, I think all of the UCs are sure things. You’d need more state and/or national awards to lock in the Ivies. It wouldn’t hurt to apply though. For EECS, maybe look at Carnegie Mellon and Harvey Mudd?

Oh, and the UCs don’t consider Freshman grades, so that B won’t even be seen.

One more thing … UCs don’t superscore.

@pineconegirl

Yes I’ve certainly looked at Carnegie Mellon and Harvey Mudd, in fact Carnegie Mellon is my second pick after MIT if I could have admission to any school. UC’s are also strongly in consideration. An issue about my EC’s is that since I live in a different country, and is not so developed economically or educationally, achieving those awards and top-tier EC’s is nearly impossible as they are unavailable.

With your grades and test scores, you’d have a good shot at CalTech. They also are more numbers based and less focused on ECs (than MIT, Stanford and other Ivies). The schools take into account what opportunities you have available to you, so you won’t be in the automatic reject pile. Everyone was talking about UCs, so I assumed you were from CA (plus you did a summer thing at Stanford). Columbia also has a good engineering program (very good in mechanical).

Any college, any at all is a possibility for you with your grades and scores, but you have to “define” yourself further for the most elite schools (if those are the schools you want). You need a story, an emphasis. An admissions reader, once they finish your application, needs to remember you - for 2 extraordinary things (too many and you won’t be remembered) and grades/scores won’t be it.

You say these are your “projected stats”. Have you actually take either the SAT or any SAT II’s yet? What about actual AP exams?

Yes, the SAT scores are from the 2 SAT’s I have taken (end of Sophomore and beginning of Junior year), I’ve taken the SAT Math, SAT Math II, and the SAT Physics exams. Ive also taken all of the AP exams listed except for Calc, Physics and English Lit. I am fairly confident that I’ll get a 5 on the Calc and Physics exams as they are not only my favourite subjects, but I also highly excel in them. As for English Lit I don’t really expect anything above a 4 but who knows.

What part of the country do you want to be in? Are finances an issue? Do you want to be in a city? Small town? Rural area? Big research university or smaller school?

If I had my druthers I’d pick a school in California or in the northeast. Finances are a small issue for now, I wouldn’t be able to afford 40k tuition, some financial aid to cut it down to 20-25k would be achievable. I’d also pick a larger school in a city rather than a town in which everything revolves around the university.

Cornell has the best engineering school in the ivies and is in your reach. Be smart about this and apply to Cornell.

I think just about any school is within your reach. Sure, Ivies might be a bit of a long shot, but then again, that’s for everyone. As long as you apply to some safeties, matches, and reaches you like, you’ll have a nice variety of schools to choose from.

And I completely agree with snugapug.

Would you say Duke is a reach or a match for me?
