Which schools are in reach and where should i apply?

Hi i have a unweighted gpa of 3.5 and a weighted gpa of 5.2. I have scored a 29 on my act. I am ranked 55 out of 600 students in my class.

I want to do pre-dental with a biology major (if you have any other good majors in mind, please let me know)

Which schools should i apply to? Please list the schools that are in reach for me and the schools that i can aim towards. I live in NJ, but all schools in the mid-Atlantic region are possibilities to me. Thanks

Chemistry is also a good major for pre-dental …I think Dental schools require a lot of chem classes.

Your scores are decent and there are hundreds of schools we can recommend that would work…but we need more info about YOU. :)

How much will your parents pay each year?

Are you going to test again? Did you take the SAT? If not, you should sign up for the Nov test because some kids do better on that. And, if you need merit scholarships, a higher test score can get you more money.

What else do you want in a school?

Big campus
small campus
quiet campus
rah rah with big team sports to watch
rural campus
city campus
warm weather
cold weather
greeks
Catholic schools ok
single-sex schools ok

Once we know what you want and how much your parents will pay, we can give you better suggestions.

Thanks for getting back to me…

My parents would be willing to pay around 20k a year and would have to borrow for the rest.

I will be taking the act again in October and will take the sat for the first time in October as well.

I am interested in a small or medium size campus and would like it to be around some metropolitan area. I would like to have personal relationships with my teachers and would like to have tutoring and assistance if necessary. I would probably do better in school in a colder area where there are fewer distractions.

Thanks again

anybody please?

First, please don’t spam the forum with the same question. Look at Rutgers and TCNJ for affordable schools that are good matches for you (both cost about $23K in-state and you can take a Stafford loan or work during the summer). Some SUNYs (like Stony Brook) might work as well.

I just checked…

It does look like Dental schools require more Chemistry classes than Bio classes, so you might want to consider majoring in Chemistry instead. Just a thought.

Since you’ll have Dental school to also pay for, you don’t want to borrow a lot for undergrad.

Are you saying that your parents are going to borrow and PAY FOR any loans?

Talk to your parents…going out of state is going to cost from $30k-50k per year. Is it likely that they would borrow (and qualify) to borrow $120k if you went to a school that costs $50k per year??? Would that be ok with them? What about the costs of Dental school???

Are you going to test again?

Anyway…Erin’s Dad is right. Rutgers and TCNJ. I would also add Ramapo to your list.

Would my scores be good enough to get into the Rutgers Honors Program?

And yes my parents would be willing to get loans for me. But I would most likely have to borrow myself as well.
