And why? Saw these types of threads on other forums.

Berkeley, mainly because of the cost. Also, I got a sense that Rice would be a better undergrad experience for my major. Berkeley seems to like graduate students better.
Also, UT, but that was my safety and doesn’t really count…

Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, UVA, UMD:CP, Claremont McKenna, and Tulane.

UT Plan 2, Columbia, Dartmouth, WUSTL, Tulane, & Vanderbilt. I have no regrets turning down any of those schools!! I chose Rice because I got a nice scholarship :)

The schools most commonly turned down by Rice students include: UT, Texas A&M, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Emory, WUSTL, Cornell, Duke, Hopkins, Northwestern, and UChicago. I also know students who turned down Harvard, Stanford, Penn, Princeton, and Wharton, but this isn’t as common.

ut, wustl, nyu, GT

Upenn, cornell, WASHU, northwestern
I couldn’t turn down the full tuition scholarship+ century’s. Plus I was really impressed when I visited (ie facilities, faculty, and student friendliness were amazing).

Mainly UT plan II and SMU…both of these would have been cheaper, and I was in the honors program at SMU, but I really loved the atmosphere of Rice when I visited during Owl Days. Everyone seemed so down-to-earth and approachable.

my friend turned down stanford :)

UT engineering honors, Penn, Columbia
Both ivies gave pretty much no financial aid, and i ended up choosing Rice over UT because of the atmosphere of the school. Every single person who goes to Rice has nothing but great things to say about it!
