Which schools did you turn down for Berkeley?

.................. Why?

Yale, because I want to do math and science. Yale lacks in the math and science departments slightly as of now, with certain undergraduate and professor exceptions (Xiaosheng Mu, etc). Also, I’m required to take a lot more random crap at such a private school. I don’t plan on doing that.

CalTech, (maybe) because I want to save my GPA for grad school =P.

Cornell, because all my friends who were cross-admits to Cal and Cornell chose Cornell. I don’t think a single person chose Cornell yet (out of all the people I know). Also, it’s very cold up in Ithaca.

Other UCs…I’m a prospective pure math and earth science major.

Duke University, UCLA, UCSD, UC Davis (Regents).

Stanford (primarily $$, but also partly because I didn’t find the campus all that vibrant at the time).

UC Davis

This is a silly thread.

Stanford, Cornell, Princeton, UT Austin, Michigan, UIUC.

NYU, RISD (best art school in the country), USC, UCLA (got in on appeal), BU.

NYU was my #1 but I couldn’t afford the 30k in loans :'(

P. $. 10char.

So far,

BU - 1
Caltech - 1

Brown, Cornell, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCD…Berkeley is the place to be for ChemE.

I only applied to 2 schools and got into both. I turned down Davis

Michigan(honors), NYU, Tulane(Honors), U of Rochester, Case western

Duke, MIT, and Stanford. I am still very hazy as to my major, and after careful consideration I decided that Berkeley was the best “all-around” school for me. It was mainly between Cal and Stanford, really, and my (Indian) parents are convinced that the former has a greater reputation.

@femmefatale NYU was my #1 choice too :frowning: but the cost just isn’t worth it, even though I want to do journalism and NYC is the perfect place to do it. However, I plan to do media studies at Cal so hopefully everything turns out well.
I also gave up ucsd, and ucr (full ride)

Petrovich - great schools there. Am surprised with Indian parents they didn’t force you to go to MIT!

Hopefully this year Berkeley will do a little better than in the past at winning cross-admits with Stanford.

Johns Hopkins, Vandy, WashU, USC, UCLA, Emory

Don’t have nothin on Cal Berkeley :)

I will tally the votes later.

I have a feeling UCLA (amongst the UCs), USC and Cornell would gather the highest votes.

I passed up on Brown, Georgetown, UCLA, UCSD, and UCD. I didnt go to Brown or Georgetown mainly because of money, but i wasnt upset because overall i liked Berkeley the best!

i think you might also want to keep track of how many people made their decision because of money haha

Passed on Cornell, USC, NYU, Carnegie Mellon.
