Please list schools that give automatic merit awards based on SAT and/or ACT scores and/or GPAs.

I know that U of AL gives automatic scholarships to those who apply early enough before all the money runs out. Out of staters are eligible, too.

If possible, please mention whether the scholarships are available to out of state students. If the website has a merit calculator, please mention, too.

Arizona State University, they have specific ones for instate and specific ones of out of state students.... in state is usually slightly higher

My son has a 2210 SAT (he'll retake as a senior) and a 32 ACT (also retaking), all A's and 7 AP classes. We want him to be able to get some merit money.

This links to a list of colleges with guaranteed scholarships. As you'll note, with the exception of colleges like the US Coast Guard Academy, Harvey Mudd, Macalester and Kenyon, virtually all colleges on the list are ranked tier 2 or below. Most are places like Lebanon Valley College and North Central University (Minn.) or Wesleyan College of Georgia.

Some on the list guarantee merit aid to students with SATs as low as 1100 or to any student who is in NHS.

If you want to go to a tier one college, however, it's highly unlikely you'll find any with guaranteed merit aid.

If you're looking for guaranteed full merit aid, don't hold your breath either. Most of the colleges on the list guarantee aid ranging from $500-$5,000, which means that one still would have lots more to pay to cover tuition and room and board.

The following top schools offer automatic money for National Merit FInalists who choose the given college as their #1 choice: (renewable for 4 years)
Vanderbilt- $5,000
U of Chicago- $2,000
Macalester- $5000
USC- Half tuition
U of Illinois- $500
There are others.

Amazing "automatic" merit awards (for all 4 years) even if you're OOS. My D turned down $48k ($12k per yer x 4) when her #1 school came through. They also still added in grants.
