Which schools have the strictest dress codes?

Which schools have the strictest dress codes for guys? Just wondering, thanks!!

Deerfield.

Really? Why?

Deerfield seems like a pretty cool school to me.

Is it mandatory that you wear a suit everyday???

I think Taft and Exeter are more formal than many other schools.
I would suggest looking at what the students are wearing in pictures on the schools’ websites to get a general idea without having to look through their school handbook.

Ok, thx.

What do u mean by strict? Do you mean the most formal dress code? Or do you mean the most strictly enforced?

Deerfield enforces its dress code, but I’ve seen guys to wear surfer shorts & flip flops on their lower half, paired with blazer & tie on their upper half.

Deerfield boys: blazer, button-down shirts and tie, OR turtleneck and blazer (no tie) in spring and fall; winter: sweater and tie ok (no blazer necessary). Pants: anything but jeans or cargo pants. Shorts fine. NO rules about shoes in any season, so lots of flip flops, except in winter (too cold). No hoodies. Girls: no jeans or cargo pants, no hoodies, supposed to wear some sort of layers on top, skirts/ dresses not TOO short, pants or shorts are fine. Dress code is pretty strictly adhered to by boys, girls seem to ignore dress code with impunity.

The dress code at St. Andrew’s is pretty much the same as Deerfield’s.

But St. Andrew’s doesn’t have optional, over-priced laundry service like Deerfield does, so the St. Andrew’s kids may not be as well-ironed…

The Hill School is a little stricter than Deerfield. Shoes must be leather and no sandals, flip flops etc. Shirt, tie and blazer or Hill varsity sweater. Dress pants, no jeans or cargos.

Wow. SO strict!! :open_mouth:

I thought Exeter.

Exeter seems pretty strict too.

It seems like all the schools like to take it out on the guys. :)

Any military school
Eton

I’m meaning non-military school.
Sorry if that was unclear.

Hotchkiss is tough. For boys it’s a jacket and/or tie with a collared button-down (and khakis if I’m not mistaken), For girls it’s a dress, skirt and blouse, or pants (no jeans of any type) with a nice top. I’ve heard that it’s not super strictly enforced for the girls-- they wear colored jeans or nice shirts without collars-- as long as you look nice. But the boys wear their jackets or ties for sure.

Since the term “strict” is subjective, why not go to the website of any school you are considering and read the Handbook. If you aren’t prepared to follow all the rules in that book, then you can safely cross it off your list. It is just that simple.

In fact, your first step in researching any school should bd the school website - not CC, not other people’s varied opinion. Get the facts directly from each school as your first step.

We can tell you that you have to wear a dinosaur costume each day, but how will you know it’s true or not, if you haven’t done your own, independent research.

CC is a fabulous resource. But without factual evidence against which to compare, it is pointless. CC needs to be ONE tool, not the ONLY.
