I was wondering which schools make cuts in their musical theatre program? I know of some who do just to have a certain amount of graduates, and I was wondering which ones those are?
It would suck to spend thousands of dollars just to get kicked out of a program mid-year.

Sorry if this question has been asked, I haven't seen it anywhere.

Emerson (in Boston) and University of Arizona are the ones that are best known for their cuts (although Emerson calls it a re-audition program…they do it after the sophomore year). Many other schools assess students’ progress at various points, but they only get cut if they really are messing up (not going to class, not making any progress, etc.), so those are not really “cut” programs. Northwestern does not have a cut program, but after your freshman year, you have to audition for the MT certificate program, and most don’t get in. So, although it is not a cut, you could very well be in a situation where you spend money on your freshman year tuition and not end up in the MT program. (Although NU parents/students point out that even if you are not in the program, you can still get a good education in MT.) There are more specifics in other threads…Emsdad is a master at searching the forum and finding those old threads and linking to them… :)

Sorta like Cal State Fullerton, at Point Park, you audition to be admitted as a freshman but that is a BA and then after a year, you audition again to get into the BFA track. Not quite the same as a cut, but still something to be aware of.
