<p>I've got a list of schools that, according to collegeboard, offer a Linguistics major plus programs for all of the foreign languages I am interested in. Can anyone give me more insight into which of these schools would be best for my intended major? Just so you can get an idea of my background, I'm from PA, I've got a 3.81 UW GPA, 1980 on the SATs, and am taking Honors/APs. </p>

<p>I think Berkeley has a Linguistics program too. Check it out. You can also go to petersons.com and search for schools with your major.</p>
<p>Berkeley and UCLA both sound AMAZING...but I doubt I could get in. Still might apply to UCLA just for the disappointment.</p>
<p>UNC-Chapel Hill has a strong linguistics program and many, many language programs. Although UNC-Chapel Hill is notoriously difficult to get into as an out-of-state (UNC accepts 33% of in-state students and probably half of that for OOS).</p>
<p>When I think language, I think Middlebury. I hope you know of it! It's a highly regarded, top of the knotch school and is well known for its languages!
And linguists is a component of languages, it's just a very difficult school to get into. Get in, and you'll be all set with an amazing education!</p>
<p>While middlebury offers many courses focused exclusively on linguistics within each of its modern language departments, there is no organized linguistics department and no formal major....it is the most popular self-designed major, however. There was discusion two years ago about starting a linguistics minor, but I do not know if that ever materialized.</p>
