Which science SAT II should I take? Does it effect the college's decision if you took physics or biology, etc?

I am in 9th grade right now and I am taking a Lab Bio course with 10th graders and I am thinking about taking the SAT II Biology test in the fall of next year. Do you think this is a good idea?

take it as soon as you finish the course while it is still fresh in your mind.

with admissions, you can look at it different ways... it's hard to say for you because u're in 9th grade and have only taken bio. you could take the sat ii's in multiple areas... just because you are planning on taking bio, it doesn't mean you can't take physics when you finish that course in 11th grade or something. on the other hand, if you've determined the rest of your life and know exactly what you want to be, that can also factor into the tests.

9th graders should not be on this site! it's too early for you.

Unless you are also taking biology in 10th grade, take the June administration of the test - if you have taken a practice test or two beforehand and are sure you will score over 700. A very few colleges (I think CMU) specify chemistry or physics for a science SAT II. However, if you can get one good score in the bag early, it will be easy for you to schedule the tests as a junior and senior.

the bio SAT is pretty hard. i recommend you to take it only if your bio course was very rigorous or after you take the AP class; i got a 4 on the AP test but only mid-600's on the SAT.

Yes, I must agree that you should consider the comprehensiveness (if thats a word) of your Bio course because I made the mistake of taking the Bio sat 2 in 9th grade with a substandard bio class

i was put in standard bio by mistake and gc wouldn't change it because they didn't feel like it. i was mad at first i ended up getting a really good teacher (head of the science dept) who also taught ib and ap bio. our lab write ups were crazy and nothing like what the honor classes were doing (write a paragraph on how the purpose was achieved...). if you teacher is good and teaches you the material, then take the sat ii's. i know kids who buy the prep books and studys some more on their own. i'm taking both ap chem and bio next year so i'll just take the tests next year. ap covers more than the sat ii requires and the ap test is much harder than sat ii.

I would recommend physics, since the curve is extremely generous and none of the material is very in-depth. You dont even need a physics course, if you dedicate the time you could get an 800 just by studying the PR review book.
