I’m hoping to apply to the school of engineering at Penn with hopes of majoring in bio engineering on premed track . On the website it says they strongly recommend Math II and Physics. Math II I know I can handle but the physics one concerns me. My junior year I have taken Honors Physics and I’ve done well. My school doesn’t allow students to take AP Physics without taking Honors Physics and also the physics program at my school is…well…less than desirable. Will it looks really bad if I haven’t taken AP Physics or the subject test? I’m thinking about taking the bio m subject test instead. Would that be alright or is the physics test an unofficial nonnegotiable?
Your questions escalated quickly. The school does not require that you take those two subject tests it recommends them as you said yourself. Don’t overthink these sorts of statements. If anything the school wants as much information as possible as to how your academics are compared to other students your age. They are going to be most interested in math and physics if you are applying to SEAS. Take that into consideration and decide what the best way you can show your proficiency in the subjects. I would also recommend taking AP PHysics. It looks better to take the class than to not take it at all.
