Which subjects do colleges recalculate grades in ?

Thanks in advance.

Every admissions office has a different policy so you will need to check each school’s web site for their specifics. Some insist that they do not recalculate; others state that they only look at unweighted; still others look only at grades, not averages.

However, I would guess that the answer you are looking for is that most colleges consider there to be five core academic areas: math, physical sciences, english, social studies and foreign language. They don’t care if you took an extra year of Phys Ed for an easy A to boost your GPA.

Thanks. If I had taken two social studies courses in a year would both be used ?

yes because it’s a core subject

Thank you very much

The admissions office at one top 20 school stated that they recalculate gpa on a 4.0 scale using academic classes only, and that they also assign a score for rigor of curriculum.
