Which Suny is right for me ?

I'm thinking about going to a Suny or cuny school for about a year or two and then switching to yale but i'm trying to get into corporate finance or international finance and was wondering which suny school would be best to fulfill this career path or would i be better off just applying to yale straight out of high School ?

Well you should of course apply to Yale while still in high school… you never know, you might get in. But for business related things, I would think Binghamton is the best

if you aren’t a competitive freshman applicant to yale, then you won’t be a competitive transfer applicant either. yale’s acceptance rate is like 2% for transfers and they want the best of the best. apply as a freshman and see what happens. if anything, go to a suny/cuny and then you can transfer to a good school (that’s what i did).

Baruch is also good for business

Ahh yes, I was only thinking about SUNYs (Binghamton). For CUNYs it would definitely be Baruch

Okay thanks for all the information now another two questions. First does anyone know what Binghamtons like ? Can you give me information on the city like what’s to do there how’s the surrounding city and stuff like that. I’ll be taking the ACT next week so I’ll apply to Yale when they start excepting applications and does anyone think finance major with entrepenur minor is a good idea or it doesn’t really make a difference in what you minor in ? Because i know I want to major in finance because I want to get Inyo hedge funds or eventually become a financial analyst

Also does anyone know how good is cuny: staten islands business program is ?

You aren’t providing any stats so it’s hard to say if you’ll even be competitive for either Binghamton or Yale. And I’m not sure you will be based on your grammar and improper use of words in your post. But since this is a forum, I’ll let it go and just urge you to be more careful and proofread before you actually submit your applications.

I recommend that you look over the school websites to get more detailed information on the programs you are interested in, where you fit in the school profile and student life. Then visit. Also, search the school forums and then perhaps post more specific questions there. You are likely to get better info from CCers that way. Asking what Binghamton is like in this New York college search forum is very vague. You may come away with answers from people based on what they have heard, not what they know firsthand. Go to the Binghamton forum with your questions on the surrounding city, etc. and you will get answers from current and prospective students, parents and alumni. This forum is best to get suggestions of different New York schools for you to research further as you ask in your original post.

You give the impression that you think there aren’t any good suny/cuny schools and you’d be wrong on that. Binghamton is highly regarded particularly SOM. A transfer to “a good school” might not even be necessary.

Well my GPA is an 4.0 And alright I’ll go post on the Binghamton forum but tht still doesn’t answer my other two questions ; how’s staten islands business program and does your minor make a difference

sandkmom - there are good sunys (bing, stony brook, geneseo) but if the OP wants to do business and end up doing ibanking or analysis, a suny won’t cut it. there is 0 name recognition outside of new york and all the big firms want top school grads.

minor doesn’t make a difference, so minor in something you like. just remember that you don’t need to major or minor in something to qualify the skills you learn by taking certain classes. how are your SATs/class rank? i would also choose baruch over staten island because their business program is top-notch.

Okay so what are some top schools recruiters look at ? I’m in the top 10% of my class, my GPA is 4.0, and I haven’t taken the SAT but I’ll be taking the ACT next week. How high of a score should I aim for to even be a canidate to get into a top school ?

2100+ SAT is ideal (the higher the better). if you’re in the top 10% of your class, you have a lot more options than just sunys/cunys/yale. why not places like northwestern, cornell, umich, etc? do you have a limit on how many schools you can apply to? i’d keep yale as your reach, but find some good matches and apply to bing and baruch just in case and find a safety, like buffalo or something.

Alright thanks but what about the ACT ? I also was thinking about Georgetown but i’m trying to figure out which schools recruiters look at the most if anyone knows where i could find information like that i’d greatly appreciate it. I don’t have a limit on how many schools i can apply to. I was Interested in Yale because it has a beautiful campus and i like the Connecticut area, but if their business school isn’t all that i’ll broaden up my options.

in general, the better the school, the more recruiters. think top 20 for a general idea. i think yale’s business (mba) school is pretty new. i’m not sure about their undergrad business major. if you’re interested, cornell’s is called aem, applied economics and management and then you could apply to the johnson school and get your mba in 1 year. also, cornell’s aem is in the college of agriculture and life sciences, which means reduced tuition for new york residents (you asked about sunys; i assume you’re in ny). here’s businessweek’s rankings for 2010:
[Top Undergraduate Business Programs 2010 - BusinessWeek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

Thanks for all the insight i appreciate it. Where is Cornell located ? how is the School and surrounding areas ? and hows the housing ?

ithaca, which is an hour away from syracuse, 3 - 4 hours away from nyc. i’m biased since i go there, but i lovelovelove everything about the school and i think ithaca’s a great place to go to college. housing is also good; most people get singles. i’d check all over their website to get a better feel

okay thanks, i’ll look over there website. But do they have an international finance program ? and do big name recruiters recruit from there ?

you can minor in internal relations. yes, big name recruiters recruit from cornell. it’s a top school with many attractive candidates for internships and jobs post-graduation. recruiters come to the school multiple times per year to meet with students and give them offers.

Only on CC will you find people who truly believe that people cannot find employment unless they go to the highest ranked school. I wonder what happens to all the other business majors out there, lol??? Similarly, only on CC will you find people who think that Cornell is not really an Ivy or that going to Cornell might lead you to suicide. For the record, I believe neither.

OP, you are new to CC. Don’t get sucked into any stranger’s opinion, my own included, on what schools will or will not cut it for you. You have a 4.0, hopefully your SAT/ACT’s will be equally awesome and you can present a compelling application. You should apply to Yale and Cornell and any other school that you are interested in. Ironicallyunsure gives good advice about your college application list…it should definitely include match schools (any of the Ivy and top ranked schools are a reach for everyone), admissions safety and financial safety schools. Binghamton, if you are IS, is a particularly good financial safety. You might also consider schools that offer merit money to an impressive applicant such as yourself.

There are so many factors that will go into your decision of what schools are best for you. It will be easiest for you to know what location you are interested in, whether you want an urban or suburban or rural school, what size you feel comfortable at, how you feel about religious affiliation, etc. Then you can really rule out what schools do not meet your needs. Otherwise, you will be sorting through tons of business programs. Best of luck to you and have fun with the college search! :)

@ ironicallyunsure Okay thanks for all the help your giving me but i think this is the last question i have about Cornell ; do they have any dual degree programs ? such as Ba/Mba Or something like that.
