Which topic would be best for the activities essay?

I’m trying to decide between three topics for the activities essay, all at different stages of development:

  1. I talk about my hobby of always trying new instruments, and how I’ve recently been learning how to master the banjo. This one has a lot of humor and is pretty lighthearted.
  2. I talk about the different roles I take as the president of the service team at my school, meaning I oversee all the drives and charities. This one so far is a little less quirky/funny IMO.
  3. I talk about how I am captain of my varsity lacrosse team, and how determined I am and my coaches’ reactions to my team dynamics, etc. I haven’t written this one yet so not sure which direction I would take it.
Thoughts? I could send what I have so far if needed.

Also, I talk about being in a band in the Community question, so would that mean I shouldn’t talk about it? And I believe I read online that Brown tends to like essays about service more.

Well I would say #1, but since I’m assuming that since that was the centerpiece of your community essay, you should probably focus on something else. So, unless you change your community essay, I would pick the second topic. It might seem kind of bland now, but if you include an anecdote of some sort, you should be able to breathe life into it.

Correct, music is the centerpiece of my community essay. And I include a few sentences in my service one about specific roles I take and experiences I have. I hope that can change the blandness, but I’m not too sure.
