Hey everyone :)

Im having a bit of a trouble choosing which university i should go to....

Im tied between University of Miami and St Johns University in Queens NY. [ There is also another university im tied with called Hult Intl Business School but its not in the US and has an unidentified rank in US college news ]

The thing is, i want to apply to one of the universities and improve my 3.0 gpa to a higher number as well as getting a high SAT score [im aiming for more than 2000] to increase my chances of getting into NYU.

University of Miami is ranked as 38th in the US college news while St John is ranked 152nd.

Im not really fond of the idea of going to FL to study mainly because i am so in love with NY.

Which university should i choose to increase my chances of getting accepted as a transfer student in NYU?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

xo

I live in a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, and the University of Miami is praised throughout the entire state. I would not hesitiate to say that it is the best private school in the state, and the weather here is simply fantastic (lived here since I was 2).

I would suggest UM for another important reason. If you’re majoring in business, Miami is home to a plethora of business-related internships and powerful business magnates (both domestic and international). The same is true for law and medicine.

It’s likely that if you attend UM, you would probably stay there and never desire to transfer :P

Oohh :o
After reading your post, i feel like leaning more towards UM now.Hehe.

I forgot to mention that i have a place in UM for spring 2013…
I will sign up for the waiting list of Fall 2012 but i will also sign up for the seating of spring 2013.

However, if i dont end up finding a place in the fall, what am i supposed to do in the months before spring 2013? lol.

I know that you are an international student (Emirates, right?), and the University of Miami has a very large international student body so you would feel right at home. I’m not too familiar about St. Johns, but I’m sure the intl. body is quite large there as well.

Hmm, that’s a bit difficult for me to answer. What are some of your options?

I don’t know if leaving a gap in your education is a good idea, so I would recommend enrolling somewhere else in the mean time, studying abroad (if there are any scholarships available or if you have the $), working, or self-studying. In the end, it’s what you want to do. Hopefully you won’t have this issue and you will get in during the fall ^.^

Well the only options im considering is…
enrolling for 3 months in St John’s since i already have a scholarship there, meaning i wouldn’t have to waste so much money and ill be experiencing life in NY OR go to Hult Intl Business School in London for the first year since according to its own site, its ranked #5 intl business school, and my sister lives in the UK so i would know one familiar face there OR go to Concordia in Canada since its also one of the top business schools OR go to lebanon [LAU] …but for some reason i do not want to do that lol.

:S

Yeah i was thinking the exact same thing concerning the gap, i was thinking of joining a school in france to continue doing what i love, which is cooking,as well as improving my french or take fashion/drawing classes …etc. Though at the same time i dont think either is a good idea lol.Finding a job in a different country sounds good though!

Thanks so much for the help though, mechnesium!! ^_^

St. John’s is, at best, an average US college most have never heard of. I’d choose UM.
