Hi everyone
I am currently attending community college in miami, florida (major in Economics). I will be finishing my sophomore year next semester (spring 2009) and I am planning to transfer. I've been preparing to apply to NYU Stern, Cornell, and Columbia (to their GS program; I am 24), but I know they will be hard to get into, so I am also looking into other universities to apply to. Since I am planning to move to NY, I thought about CUNY Baruch, which would eventually allow me to intern and/or find a job in Manhattan. But in that case I would probably have to take some loans, especially for the cost of living in NY. So then I also thought about the possibility of applying to University of Florida, which will be more affordable and all my credits will transfer, but probably internships or job opportunities will be less than in NY. In the case that I would have to chose between these two, which one would you recommend?
Thanks for your opinion!

Baruch has a reputable business program (in the city, that is), but it's not even top 50. The benefit of being in New York can't be ignored, however, so I do suggest to apply there as a safety if you can't make Columbia or Stern, which as you know is really tough.

Thanks Violaghost for your reply.
I got accepted to Baruch for the Spring semester (i found out yesterday), but I will still apply to Columbia and NYU for the fall semester. Do you think that if I decide to go to Baruch for the spring semester will affect my chances at any of those two universities (like, I am transferring twice)?

I wish I could help you, but I don't know... I was wondering the same myself. I guess you could argue that NYC is so important to you, you must be there no matter what (NUY will like this, they consider the city an essential part of their education), but in general, why not just wait till the fall?
