^^ Yes thanks, I definitely understand that Caltech is a private school and not a UC, don’t worry lol. Makes sense that Berkeley gets the Cal name since it was the first.

Huh? Check out the Berkeley hoodies. About a third of them say simply “Cal.”

[Cal Golden Bears Sweatshirt, Cal Golden Bears Hoody, University of California Hooded Sweatshirt, Fleece](http://www.footballfanatics.com/COLLEGE_Cal_Golden_Bears_Sweatshirts_And_Fleece)

^ Common misperception…you’d be surprised how many Californians think Cal = Cal State.

IIRC, UCB’s football helmet simply says “Cal” on the side…

What’s the correction? I wasn’t disputing that. I was disputing that Cornell always accepted people of any sex; that blatantly isn’t true.

As for Berkeley, the article I’d read had claimed otherwise; another article says that women didn’t enroll till 1871. Either way, I sincerely doubt Cornell had anything to do with it.

But it was not enough to get Cal, or any of the other schools, to “copy” it.

I see your point Kyle. I am not very familiar with the origines of Cal, although I am sure it had nothing to do with Cornell since both schools were founded and developped at the sametime. On the other hand, I do know that Stanford was in part modeled after Cornell.

I don’t see anything on whether Stanford was modeled after Cornell, but it’s likely given that 7 of the original 15 faculty members were from Cornell. Like Stanford, Berkeley was influenced by an Ivy–Yale (many of the founders were from Yale).

Being from Florida I can say that most people where I’m from didn’t even know California=Berkeley. My dad who’s a pretty big sports enthusiast didn’t even know California=Berkeley. When Cal football was #2 (Only later to fall miserably out of the top 25) I was ragging on my friends at UF telling them to look at the rankings and see Berkeley ranked ahead of UF…they then asked me if Berkeley even had a team. I said look at the team ranked #2. Now I regret even telling them because they then ragged on me the rest of the season.
