To anyone who lives in the State College area, I was just wondering which carrier you guys would recommend. It's between AT&T and T-Mobile for me (since I have a GSM phone). Which one has better coverage, speeds etc.?

Most students have at&t and Verizon, the two most expensive carriers.
Sprint works fine everywhere except the HUB area.

We had to drop T-mobile when my daughter started at PSU, the service was poor. Switched to Verizon and it was fine.

Yeah I’ve heard great things about Verizon, but unfortunately it’s a CDMA network, that’s why my only options are AT&T and T-Mobile. So by the looks of it, AT&T seems to be the better choice.

I’ve had AT&T in State College for more than ten years with no complaints.

Verizon LTE phones do have a sim card slot. The Iphone 5 on verizon is unlocked right out of the box.
For you, I suggest not getting tied in a contract. Get an android phone for $150 on amazon. Look for phones that have higher than 4.0 rating, 3.0 is a must. Put it on straight talk for $45 a month. They use at&t towers.
